You know, non-gun free zones. I remember one about 2 years ago.

Contrary to popular belief, police stations are not usually full of armed officers. Most of the people working at a police station are unarmed dispatchers, admin, and jail staff. Most officers/detectives are on the road. There are 'some' cops on desk duty, but not many. We were only at the station to fill out paperwork and then head back out on the road.

But there is a chance that a police officer is armed and a criminal might prefer a gun free zone instead.

There have been folks who walk into police stations to commit suicide by bringing in a firearm and making threats.

The police stations I've been to, IIRC, tend to make officers check their weapons at entry points.

... or lock them in the drawers if they are on desk duty... yep. It all depends on policy.
