John Boehner, Republican House Speaker, said his questions about Barack Obama’s possible use of military action in Syria (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/c562580a-10f8-11e3-b5e4-00144feabdc0.html) had not been answered following a personal briefing by the US president, highlighting how far the administration still needed to go to make its case.

A spokesman for Mr Boehner said “it is clear that further dialogue and consultation with Congress . . . will be needed”, following a phone call between the lawmaker and the president.

It is up to members of Congress and the public to make him fulfill that obligation. Unless that happens, Obama will go ahead with the attack as if Congress is irrelevant because it will have proven itself to be exactly that.

Or Boehner can instruct Obama that, under our Constitution, in the absence of an attack on the United States, Congress alone has the authority to decide whether the United States goes to war.

As speaker, he can call the House back on Monday to debate, and decide, whether to authorize the war Obama is about to start. In the absence of a Congressional vote for war, Boehner should remind the president that U.S. cruise missile strikes on Syria, killing soldiers and civilians alike, would be the unconstitutional and impeachable acts of a rogue president.

Sources directly from Capitol Hill revealed that three separate letters were sent to Obama from members of Congress warning him not to take action on Syria before they return. That has been the whole point. Obama faces a debt ceiling battle in September and the Treasury runs out of money in October. John Boehner is a country-club Republican who really stands for nothing. This is the guy that removed any Congressman from financial committees who supported the Tea Party and Ron Paul. He stands for nothing but business as usual. Consequently, it is debatable whether or not he will be able to deliver the Republican vote because he stands for compromise not principle.

This is why Obama needs a war. He is trying to box Congress in to force higher taxes to pay for the war effort that will then become permanent. This is always divide and conquer while distracting everyone and make sure the press sells his nonsense on Syria.

Obama is determined to go to war. But the War Cycle is turning up. That means there is a high risk of this escalating into World War III. Russia could easily enter the war and demonstrate its power. Its advisers in Syria would love the opportunity to test Russian weapons against American ships for live practice. When events like this take place during a down-cycle, they do not spread. However, when the cycle turns up, these things get out of hand. So the volatility is likely to increase but Obama may then order the Fed to keep the stimulus going and there will be no tapering. Watch for that in September. Create a war and the Fed must comply.
