An American journalist who accepted an invitation to appear on a television channel owned by the Russian government surprised producers in Moscow on Wednesday by raising the subject of Russia’s anti-gay legislation and denouncing the network’s employees as propagandists for President Vladimir V. Putin.

The two-minute outburst by the columnist James Kirchick — who began by quoting the gay-rights activist and playwright Harvey Fierstein and donning rainbow-colored “gay pride suspenders” — took place during live coverage of the trial of Pfc. Bradley Manning on the Kremlin-financed news channel RT, or Russia Today.

When the host, Yulia Shapovalova, tried to steer her guest back to the Manning trial, Mr. Kirchick said: “I’m not really interested in talking about Bradley Manning; I’m interested in talking about the horrific environment of homophobia in Russia right now, and to let the Russian gay people know that they have friends and allies and solidarity from people all over the world, and that we’re not going to be silent in the face of this horrific repression that is perpetrated by your paymasters, by Vladimir Putin. That’s what I’m here to talk about.”

He continued: “I don’t know as a journalist how you can go to sleep at night, seeing what happens to journalists in Russia, who are routinely harassed, tortured and sometimes even killed by the Russian government — how you can call yourself a journalist and how you can go to sleep at night. I find that abominable. You should be ashamed of yourself. Everyone who works for this network should be ashamed of yourself.”

Thought I recognized that name.......

In 2008, Kirchick wrote about newsletters published under the name of Texas Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. The story, which said the newsletters contained racist and anti-homosexual material, became prominent in the 2012 presidential election.[

Just a few bit of information on James kirchick from his wikipedia entry

James Kirchick (/ˈkɜrtʃɨk/; born 1983) is a reporter, foreign correspondent and columnist. Kirchick attended Yale University and wrote for its student newspaper, the Yale Daily News.[1] He is a fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington;[2] prior to this he was writer-at-large for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.[3]
For over three years, Kirchick worked at The New Republic, covering domestic politics, intelligence, and American foreign policy.[4][5] While he remains a contributing editor for TNR, Kirchick’s reportage has appeared in The Weekly Standard,[4] The American Interest, The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Columbia Journalism Review, Prospect, Commentary and World Affairs Journal. He writes frequently for newspapers including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal,[6] The Los Angeles Times,[7] and Ha’aretz.

From that we can tell that the man is most likely a hardcore neocon who is just butt hurt that Putin is getting in the way of the West's imperialistic agenda. But whatelse do we know about him?

In 2008, Kirchick wrote about newsletters published under the name of Texas Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. The story, which said the newsletters contained racist and anti-homosexual material, became prominent in the 2012 presidential election.[4][5] It was later claimed by television station Fox19 that Ron Paul was not the author of the newsletters, although they were published under his name and he has taken moral responsibility for them. A number of other freelance writers were stated by Fox19 to have written the newsletters. The report stated that Kirchick had not responded to inquiries on the matter.[12] However, Sam Stein of the Huffington Post wrote in an article on the newsletters that there is evidence from old interviews with Ron Paul that Paul did write some of the newsletters during this time period, as stated by Ron Paul himself.

So yea we have a man who has a thing against anti neocon coming on a TV network to sabotage the discussion. In the clip he said that RT did not cover the anti gay propaganda to minor law on its station but they did. The videos below were all broadcasted, posted on YT before his outburst.

RT downplayed the anti-gay laws saying other countries are doing it and other countries have more harsh laws. One of the videos claimed that Russia isn't going to enforce the anti-gay laws during the Olympics, which is actually false according to the latest news reports.

This topic has the potential to be entertaining. On one hand you have your Russian-haters but on the other hand you have your gay-haters.

Which one will prevail? Who cares? Let's just laugh at the idiocracy.

[Quote]Radio Free Europe is a radio organization based in Europe and the Middle East. In 1949, the National Committee for a Free Europe was formed in New York, and Radio Free Europe was established as the radio broadcasting station of the committee. The headquarters of the radio station were based in Munich, and the first transmission was broadcast on 4 July 1950.

The mission statement of Radio Free Europe was the promotion of democratic values and institutions through the transmission of factual information and ideas. Up until 1971, the listening public were unaware that the funding for Radio Free Europe came from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Funds were passed to the CIA via the Congress of the United States.

The original purpose of Radio Free Europe was to broadcast news to the people behind the Iron Curtain. The CIA, however, used the radio station to conduct psychological warfare from behind the Iron Curtain. All of the programming guidelines and much of the news were actually created by the CIA. When the public became aware of CIA involvement in Radio Free Europe, the organization became a non-profit company charted in the state of Delaware. The International Broadcasting Bureau took over the radio station.

Its unfortunate that the Russian people support laws that would ban preaching pro gay ideas to minors but that is what they've decided to do but this idea that this law would ban gays in Russia is just false. And for the Olympic athletes, they all should be fine if their agenda is to participate at the games instead of promote gay lifestyle to minors. The first video actually explain the law and state who get arrested and what the penalty is. It is not what Stephen Fry wants you to believe

What's funny is that the anti gay posters are often the anti-Russia/foreigner posters. Who do they hate more? Gays or Russians?

RT loves to ignore the corruption going on in Russia and scrutinizes the actions of the U.S. Government. Pot calling the kettle black situation.

Radio Free Europe targeted the Soviet Union and broadcasted anti-Communist information and messages. It was funded by Congress and the CIA.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) is a broadcaster funded by the U.S. Congress that provides news, information, and analysis to countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East "where the free flow of information is either banned by government authorities or not fully developed". RFE/RL is supervised by the Broadcasting Board of Governors, a bi-partisan federal agency overseeing all US international broadcasting services.

Whats hilarious is that RT is more reputable and honest then all of the msm us stations put together. Of course RT has to be biased. However, it just so happens that presenting anti-us views hits the accurate presentation of the story 95% of the time.

Just for the record, I do not support the new anti gay propaganda to minor laws in Russia, in fact I support gay marriage in the state supported marriage system we have now. Also I am not really anti or pro Russia but because they serve as a counter to US/NATO world domination I will temporarily support them. In conclusion, I am not anti gay or anti Russia but anti neocon to the max and I will attack any neocon that open his mouth to spew their propaganda.

When the Russian Government is controlling RT, it's safe to say that corruption in the Russian Government will be overlooked.

It continues to amaze me that that people here are supportive of Government controlled news. Aren't words like "Propaganda" and "Fascism" thrown around to describe government controlled news?

Some people don't seem to realize that RT opposes the US foreign policy for the same reason MSNBC was anti US foreign policy when Bush was in office. Not because they have actual moral, legal, or practical objections, but because it isn't their guy doing it.

I seriously doubt anyone is not aware of what they are doing. Think of the Bush years on MSNBC, remember the very strong pro constitution, anti war, pro civil liberty segments they used to have on their prime time program? do you think they all should be discredited because they were all produced because of partisan politics? Or the very fair interviews they used to do with Ron and Rand Paul? The same happens with the people on talk radio

RT is the snake in your garden that fights the rat infestation and as long as the rat problem persists, they are welcomed.
