Paducah, Ky. — Rand Paul switched gears today, swapping politics for medicine, and doing pro bono eye surgery on four people. I’ll have more details in a later piece, but I wanted to share some of the pictures of Dr. Paul operating today (he and two of his patients were kind enough to let me watch the surgeries).

Usually NPR all but ignores Ron Paul. But this morning I was surprised by a nice profile piece they ran on him. The following is an excerpt from their website:

Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul is known for his fervent opposition to armed intervention overseas and the Federal Reserve — and for his equally fervent supporters.
And while those supporters may want him to be the next president for different reasons, they're all well aware that before entering politics, Paul was a doctor back in the southeast Texas district he represents in the U.S. House.
"I think that by being a doctor he's able to address the root causes and not just treat the symptoms of these problems that we're facing as Americans," says Sean Donovan, a supporter from Boston. "And I think that it is truly admirable, his willingness to go that extra step and have a principled approach, and that he doesn't pander to his audience."

That's something new I didn't know about Ron Paul--That he did not accept Federal money to delivery babies. He worked either pro bono or literally for "chicken feed". My admiration for the man has increased all the more--Ron Paul does indeed "walk the talk". He practiced the true form of charity, which if followed by the rest of us, would eliminate any need for a government dole.
