Tapping into an emerging market. It's good news mainly for the reason that non-compliers are growing enough to be recognized as a market that can be tapped. ie we are no longer 'fringe,' even though the news media will keep trying to convince the world that we are.

Nicely put.

That was my first thought as well.

eh, just a commercial trying to brand Benz and Bmw owners as being uncreative and robot like and infinity drivers as being adventurous and standing out.

That's what makes me wonder if it's just an attempt at refurbishing the old Apple 1984-Metropolis hybrid Superbowl ad:

All to market a computerized car...

Computerized, black box enabled, GPS tracked, remotely hackable, car.... It is the illusion of being liberated - "Luxury never felt so liberating..." Just like we have the illusion of Freedom. "America has never seemed freer."

But yes, a growing market share that doesn't really get freedom and liberty (yet - hopefully will), but are hearing it more and more and think they want it too.... So Infiniti is trying to market to that group.

Apple has been using this tactic to sell product for decades- whether the old "1984" campaign or "Think Different" or whatever.

It's actually a pretty common sales pitch for companies that hold a small (or tiny) market share.

Another example is the Vonage commercials that have been popping up lately showing a "dirty Occupy hippy" type guy.

Ironic considering they comply with all of the EPA and DOT diktats.
