WAKEFIELD, N.H. (AP) — New York Republican Congressman Peter King is warning his party not to abandon its longstanding emphasis on national defense as he launches a two-day tour of New Hampshire.

The 11-term congressman sipped Coke and posed for pictures Sunday evening at a backyard barbecue deep in the state's Lakes Region, an event that served as a coming-out party of sorts for King's presidential ambitions. He says he is at least a year away from a final decision, but King has officially joined the ballooning group of Republican leaders teasing a presidential bid.

"I believe the Republican Party would be receptive to my candidacy," King said ahead of the New Hampshire visit.

Not surprising. The PTB will want as many warhawks as possible on that stage to make the non-interventionists look dangerous.

I believe it will have the opposite effect, however. I believe King, Santorum, Christie, and will each diminish themselves by trying to make a unified argument against the logical argument. It will be beautiful.

My fear is that it may open the door for someone (maybe Jeb) to take a middle road between the two factions and it'll make both of the other sides seem unreasonable.

Problem with that is there really is no middle road. Rand's surging shows people are largely waking up to the failed foreign policy of the past, either you are for it or against it.

I just don't see a middle road here.

Peter King is an IRA supporting PLO linked terrorist. I can't wait for him to run. I hope Rand will be willing to hammer that point home.

In fact we should show up at Peter King events holding signs with the above murals on them.

Could you imagine Peter King trying to debate Hillary Clinton?! They'd have nothing to argue about.

Whats with his eyes? signs of an early stroke? or keeps lying to himself?

My Pa would say, "He looks like a crook."

Then I would say, "How does someone look like a crook?"

Then he would say, "Suppose the way you act, has an effect on the way you look."

We should run a liberty candidate against him.

I wonder who...:p

In all seriousness, I can't imagine anyone saying "You know, I really like Rand Paul, but I just honestly prefer Peter King, if Peter King wasn't in it, I'd vote for Rand." So honestly, I see nothing to lose by his running, unless heaven forbid he actually win: which he won't.

I'm much more worried about Ted Cruz if he does decide to run. Because I can see a lot of people (idiots, IMO, but nonetheless) making Cruz their first choice and Rand their #2.

We need to be ready to totally destroy Ted Cruz if we have to to keep him from running.

For one thing, he wasn't even born on US soil. As such, he is not eligible, IMO.

We should run a liberty candidate against him.

I'd be happy if YAL or C4L endorsed Democratic opponents of Peter King and Chris Christie just so that they vanish and go away before 2016. That should be our strategy for the next four years. Fund, lend support to, and vote for the most viable challengers to Rand's potential 2016 rivals regardless of party affiliation.

Yeap, another distraction and interference candidate to eat up debate time and dilute the voters in favor of their ringer.

Because I can see a lot of people (idiots, IMO, but nonetheless) making Cruz their first choice and Rand their #2.If we've learned anything from GOP primaries, it's that the #2 choice is the most coveted. I would be 100% enthused if going into the primary, Rand was the second choice of the Rubio people, the second choice of the Cruz people, the second choice of the Santorum people, and the second choice of the Bush people.

Remember, folks... We shouldn't be pushing Rand as the number one choice above all others, we just have to make him an acceptable #2. When the others fall flat - and they will - we have to give them somewhere to turn. Even for the Christie people - (if you find any of them) say things like, "Well, it sure is nice to have a fall back like Rand Paul; I'd be happy with either of them!" This method is far more wise for winning a primary.
