Alpharetta, GA -

A Georgia public safety department got a super addition to it's fleet of vehicles.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety posted the following picture and link on their Facebook page.

"We want to thank Motorcars of Georgia/Lamborghini Atlanta for donating and decaling this car at no cost to the citizens or the city. We will be driving it in the Old Soldiers Day Parade and it will be at National Night Out for photo opportunities. It is a once in a lifetime chance to get your picture taken with a Lamborghini police car."

At $400 for an oil change, it is tax money well spent.

Don't worry cops in a Lamborghini..........Not really a good fit, they'll fuck it up.

Donation? That's a bribe.

I don't expect this to last either. It will be like the 3-series BMWs the GSP got a decade or so ago. They've only got one left and it sits collecting dust at the HQ.

Officers Crockett and Tubbs will drive it as carefully as if they had seized it off a dangerous yet beautiful Colombian drug smuggler themselves.

This article says they have to give it back after the events:

And I hope they give it back before they get any not-so-bright ideas for the next budget.

Even though the car dealer donated it, insurance on that car will cost taxpayers a fortune. Best to sell it and upgrade to 4 new police cars from ones that are about to go out of service anyway. That will really save taxpayers money. Of course, the cops want there expensive and impractical toy.

Conspicuous consumption is the spending of money on and the acquiring of luxury (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxury_good) goods and services to publicly display economic power — either the buyer’s income or the buyer’s accumulated wealth. Sociologically, to the conspicuous consumer, such a public display of discretionary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discretionary_income) economic power is a means either of attaining or of maintaining a given social status (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_status).

Moreover, invidious consumption, a more specialized sociological term, denotes the deliberate conspicuous consumption of goods and services intended to provoke the envy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Envy) of other people, as a means of displaying the buyer’s superior socio-economic status.

Vulgar Display of Power is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music) band Pantera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantera).

...but it also applies to this situation.

And I hope they give it back before they get any not-so-bright ideas for the next budget.

The "two events" being a parade this week and next- and then it goes back to the dealer. Insurance or oil changes won't be any expense they will have to worry about. It is cheap advertising for the dealership.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Officials in Alpharetta said in a release Friday that they were going to be displaying a Lamborghini sports car badge as a police car in a parade this weekend.

The vehicle is being loaned to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety by Motor Cars of Georgia, according to department spokesman George Gordon.

Gordon said the vehicle was loaned to the department for Saturday's Old Soldier's Day parade, and next week's event for National Night Out. They said they will be returning the vehicle after the events.

Doens't seem like a big deal. Unless you don't want them taking any gifts.

Gifts?
or bribes.

What is the position of public officials taking "gifts"? From an Ethical standpoint?

Sorry. Dump of ideas here. I hope you enjoy at least one of them:

I think most cops should be driving a Lambo. They're going to need a fast car to make their getaway after all their charades fall through.

Hmmm... I think police are annoying but I want to get on their good side for financial purposes. I don't want to support the police state so it needs to be a donation that's completely symbolic and unproductive that they'd love. Eureka!

GA's last laid off officer is sorely disappointed.

Why do they want to use a Lambo for a parade? Unless it's the fastest parade in history, the audience is going to be sorely disappointed.

"once in a lifetime chance to get your picture taken with a Lamborghini police car."
Based on government misappropriation of funds and my criminal record, I doubt that.

Maybe they made a deal to "look the other way" at Lambo owner's driving through.

There's one other police department which recently acquired a Lambo.... it's in Dubai. Nice to see the ethics of Arab monarchies in our melting pot eh?

2 cops on the lambo:

cop 1: look a speeder, let's go get him, yeah!

cop 2: I don't know, man.

cop 1: why?

cop 2: he's going too fast, I don't want to fuck up my sweet ride.
