Someone just edited Edward Snowden's Wikipedia page to call him a traitor. Their IP address was 156.33.241.5, which belongs to...the U.S. Senate building in DC! Idiots...

And add a section on how somebody at the Senate was trying to change wikipedia to show claim he is a traitor to include the IP address.

It's already been changed back to dissident. I would change the article by adding the bit about propaganda, but I don't know how to do all the embedded links or follow the footnote protocol. I'd add that information into the already existing Congress section.

ETA: Dissident was changed to fugitive while I was typing this.

Despite the chatters in reaction to this, dissident whistleblower's supporters should not insert "suspected war criminal" in info pages on Obama, McCain, Lindsey Graham. Obama is no longer in Senate even and he had voted against renewal of Patriot Act while he was in Senate.

I like Wikipedia and all but good lord all the edits going on.

Wiki the word 'cow' and it's some sort of bovine . . . no wait its a reptile which lays eggs, no gives live birth, eh, and feeds its young with udders, no it regurgitates spaghetti after being smashed up with its gizzard. This Wikipedia entry is now locked and there will be no further edits.

Lol....the true traitors are calling him a traitor......can't wait for the day these fucks have to run for fear of prosecution or for fear of their lives. It's a static IP... so is this a Proxy static IP or is this a static IP per senator's office?

Anybody resourced enough in tying to get a MAC address, email address, or exact Senator's office this came from? The MAC addy is what is unique, forensics on that, would reveal the culprit.

Nothing new, just read an article on how WIKI pages are edited in favoring of Israel, all the time... "GIYUS" @ work

Interesting results when googled GIYUS. Highly doubt they has volunteers on duty on this web forum though.

Could have even been somebody using a laptop on a wireless system in the area? Closest "official" building is the Smithsonian. It is also right next to Union Station.

Someone that has access to the WIFI system that is. The IP/network definitely belongs to the senate.

/Edit since found that it's a confirmed proxy, so it may be used by a large number of people. I still suspect it has to be someone with specific access such as staff.

idk if it really matters since the wikipedia community is vibrant enough to pick up these attempts at misinformation.

A member of the US Senate was caught this week trying to make a rather conspicuous edit to Edward Snowden's Wikipedia page .

In a move sure to grind the gears of conspiracy theorists everywhere, a member of the US Senate recently edited Snowden’s Wikipedia page from describing him as a ‘dissident’ to a traitor, according to the entry’s changelog. The user’s IP address was quickly traced back to the US Senate.

It is not clear if the person is an active Senator, a staffer or an intern, but the change certainly came from the Senate.First noticed by Wikipedia watchdog Wikipediocracy, the change is not the first made by that user, but is the first malicious act, according to the IP address' Wikipedia activity log.

The attempted edit, made August 2, was rejected by a moderator on the grounds it ‘seemed less than neutral,’ according to the posted rejection, which also listed the IP address and showed it was registered to the US Senate....

Not many edits if it represents that many people. And they only date to the beginning of this year.

judging by the topics, i would suspect it is zippy.

the FSIS is part of the USDA and not a part of the FDA
whoever it is- they know their government agencies.

Two edits on Middle Eastern history, one on a gun, one on book about religious fiction, and one on a tiki bar in San Francisco. And Snowden.

Obviously Republican, still in the closet, loves a police state, and likes to understand the history of the people on whom he's dropping bombs.
