When the Republican National Committee convenes its summer meeting in Boston later this month, two commissions will be appointed to consider changes that would have broad impacts on the next presidential race.
The first, a subcommittee of the RNC’s Standing Committee on Rules, will take a hard look at the overall process by which the party selects its presidential nominee. Among the actions that group is likely to consider: changing the manner in which delegates are selected and allocated, incentivizing primary elections over caucuses, and shortening the nominating calendar.
Unlikely to be recommended are any changes that would eliminate or significantly diminish the privileges of the “carve-out states” of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, which are permitted to hold their electoral contests earlier than the other 46 states.
Heck, this might even work to Rand's advantage if he can sweep it out of the gate.
