I like him better now that he's not a cop. I respect him for standing up.

After he recorded and got all this information to expose the chief, had he quit, that would impress me more than continuing to work under that regime.

How can you be a friend of Liberty and do that job? They seem to be opposing ideals.

Remember if you're calling Auburn AL that every sentence should contain a "Sir" or "Ma'am" or they just won't take you seriously in those parts.

Good for him. Some of you might laugh knowing his rough circumstances, but I mean it... good for him. I hope he finds a new job and stays the hell away from law enforcement. That's what you get when you try to buck the system. Had he stayed, he would have corrupted his own moral values and become a tool of an oppressive state. That's worse than getting fired. He should see it as a blessing in disguise.

"Good cop" feels like an oxymoron to me. If you can do the entirety of that job and it all sits well with you then how "good" can you be? And if it doesn't then you may be seen as "good" by liberty loving people but your boss might not think you are so "good" at your job. Why put yourself in that position? There are other jobs to be had where you don't have to constantly skirt moral quandaries.

Seems like he could put some applications into some of the "liberty" sheriff offices. It would involve a move but I would think that at least one would look at this video and say they would want him.

I think this is one of those things that has the potential to bring libertarians and non-libertarians together. Nearly everyone in Auburn was getting sniped by these ridiculous quota practices, and the 'likes' on the FB page have exploded in the past 48 hours. It's a shame I'm not down in Auburn anymore to see this unfold personally, but I'm still really encouraged by the response to this.

And from the fund there is this....

"Should litigation not proceed as planned, the money raised will go to the organization "Oath Keepers" www.oathkeepers.org -- Dedicated to honoring the oath taken by officers and military personnel to protect the Constitution."

Is there really such a thing? These ticket quotas are very common, as I understand it, and I don't see how any sheriff really has the choice to make his department more liberty-oriented. They all have to collect revenue. There's a system, and even sheriffs are beholden to it, where they all have certain laws on the books that they have to enforce no matter how begrudgingly, and their primary purpose for existing is still revenue for the state. That's not going to change, and just because some sheriffs say they are for gun rights, that doesn't really say a whole lot. A lot of neocons support gun rights but they're terrible on all the other issues. That's why we don't see bastions of liberty-oriented police forces. They all, in the end, are tools of an oppressive state, and much of what they do is out of their control.
