He spent considerably less than his opponents (about $600,000), and is widely regarded as one of the first candidates to effectively use the Internet as a medium of reaching out to voters in a political campaign.

Ventura ran as a candidate for the Reform Party of Minnesota (but joined the Independence Party of Minnesota when it broke from its association with the Reform Party of the United States of America) and narrowly, but unexpectedly beat the major-party candidates: St. Paul mayor Norm Coleman (Republican) and Minnesota Attorney General Hubert H. "Skip" Humphrey III (Democratic-Farmer-Labor).

His campaign consisted of a combination of aggressive grassroots events and original television spots, designed by quirky adman Bill Hillsman, using the phrase "Don't vote for politics as usual."

Ventura went on to gain the highest approval rating of any governor in Minnesota history, with some polls ranking his public approval as high as 73 percent in 1999, despite controversial public comments.

"Don't vote for politics as usual."

I like that.

Jesse Ventura won the election in my beloved state because of 2 reasons:
1) His ads were great...very humorous. He introduced the "Jesse Ventura Action Figure" in his ads which became a staple of conversation around the water cooler in Minnesota.

2) His libertarian ideas really caught fire with the young people. Jesse won the election because young adults ages 18-34 came out the polls in record numbers (many first time voters). This is what Dr. Paul needs to do...get those young people who have never voted before.

If Jesse Ventura can win, then we can win.

Are there any more lessons we can learn?

I just got this horrible image of a Ron Paul doll that when you push the button it throws forward its hand with a pen in it and says, "We should take our marching orders from the Constitution!"
