Journalist Michael Hastings’ body was reportedly cremated by Los Angeles authorities against his family’s wishes, destroying possible evidence of his mysterious death in a car accident on June 18.

Hastings was killed when his Mercedes crashed into a tree at a high speed and exploded.

Only hours earlier, Hastings sent an email to friends at Buzzfeed.com stating that he was “onto a big story” and had “to go off the radar for a bit.” He also warned his colleagues that they might be questioned about him by authorities.

“A close family friend did confirm that Michael’s body was sent home in an urn, meaning he was cremated and it wasn’t the request of the family ... in fact the family wanted Michael’s body to go home," said San Diego 6 reporter Kimberly Dvorak on Sunday (video below).

According to Dvorak, Hastings spoke with an unidentified attorney before his death who has all the details about the story Hastings was working on when he died.

Hastings had not told his wife about the story “because he said he wanted to protect her from knowing anything so if anything were to happen to him nothing could happen to her,” said Dvorak.

Nothing suspicious about that. Bodies are cremated against the families' wishes all the time./s

I don't doubt that Hastings was assassinated, but this cremation business appears to be a false rumor. The source was "San Diego 6 reporter Kimberly Dvorak", but her report was inaccurate, according to this:

For unknown reasons, the LAPD and Los Angeles firefighters were told not to talk to the media about Hastings’ death.
Question 1. Who told police and fire departments not to talk about Hastings' death?

According to Dvorak, Hastings spoke with an unidentified attorney before his death who has all the details about the story Hastings was working on when he died.
Question 2. Was a lawyer killed around the same time?

It is very common for people to be asked to not comment during ongoing investigations.

It is equally not uncommon for "confidential sources within the government" to promote a narrative.

@colleenmenzies @peterjludlow and that the remains were cremated. I also said I wasn't sure if that's what Michael wanted or the family.

Joe Biggs said the family was waiting for the body. The coroner said he'd released the body. He found out later that the body had been cremated. He also said that Michael's wife had already said she wanted the death investigated. What do you think?

It also appears as though the wife and family have been visited and threatened. Because at first Biggs said she was determined to bring whom ever down that did this to her husband and after the third interview with Biggs he commented that she said she will handle it in her own way and she wouldn't get involved with SSG Biggs.

From my understanding Jones is going to send a crew out to LA along with Sargent Biggs to investigate Michael Hastings death, and Jones was asked to stand down. But I do not think he will stand down.

It is very common for people to be asked to not comment during ongoing investigations.

It's also common for the fedgov to overstep their authority in asking local officials to do this and not do that, even though it's a violation of at least the spirit of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, and even though these local authorities are supposed to answer only to the local taxpayers. Doesn't make it part of a healthy republic. Nor does it make it right.

Does it?

He doen't say it was againt the family's wishes. Hastings himself could have had a request that when he died he be cremated. The body would have been pretty badly burnt up in the fire anyways.

In the video, the reporter admits that she was unable to confirm what she was reporting.

"I just want to say I have not confirmed this with Michael Hasting's wife."

Are you sure about that? At around 12:20, Eye witness says the body below the shoulders was not only NOT pretty badly burnt up, but it 'wasn't burnt up in anyway'
