Former two-term GOP Senator Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire emailed Edward Snowden yesterday [emphasis added]:

Mr. Snowden,

Provided you have not leaked information that would put in harms way any intelligence agent, I believe you have done the right thing in exposing what I regard as massive violation of the United States Constitution.

Having served in the United States Senate for twelve years as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Judiciary Committee, I think I have a good grounding to reach my conclusion.

I wish you well in your efforts to secure asylum and encourage you to persevere.

Kindly acknowledge this message, so that I will know it reached you.

Regards,
Gordon J. Humphrey
Former United States Senator
New Hampshire

After I contacted Sen. Humphrey to confirm its authenticity, he wrote to me [emphasis added]:

Mr. Greenwald,

Yes. It was I who sent the email message to Edward Snowden, thanking him for exposing astonishing violations of the US Constitution and encouraging him to persevere in the search for asylum.

To my knowledge, Mr. Snowden has disclosed only the existence of a program and not details that would place any person in harm's way. I regard him as a courageous whistle-blower.

I object to the monumentally disproportionate campaign being waged by the U.S. Government against Edward Snowden, while no effort is being made to identify, remove from office and bring to justice those officials who have abused power, seriously and repeatedly violating the Constitution of the United States and the rights of millions of unsuspecting citizens.

Americans concerned about the growing arrogance of our government and its increasingly menacing nature should be working to help Mr. Snowden find asylum. Former Members of Congress, especially, should step forward and speak out.

Regards,
Gordon Humphrey

Snowden's reply to Sen. Humphrey:

Mr. Humphrey,

Thank you for your words of support. I only wish more of our lawmakers shared your principles - the actions I've taken would not have been necessary.

The media has distorted my actions and intentions to distract from the substance of Constitutional violations and instead focus on personalities. It seems they believe every modern narrative requires a bad guy. Perhaps it does. Perhaps, in such times, loving one's country means being hated by its government.

If history proves that be so, I will not shy from that hatred. I will not hesitate to wear those charges of villainy for the rest of my life as a civic duty, allowing those governing few who dared not do so themselves to use me as an excuse to right these wrongs.

My intention, which I outlined when this began, is to inform the public as to that which is done in their name and that which is done against them. I remain committed to that. Though reporters and officials may never believe it, I have not provided any information that would harm our people - agent or not - and I have no intention to do so.

Further, no intelligence service - not even our own - has the capacity to compromise the secrets I continue to protect. While it has not been reported in the media, one of my specializations was to teach our people at DIA how to keep such information from being compromised even in the highest threat counter-intelligence environments (i.e. China).

You may rest easy knowing I cannot be coerced into revealing that information, even under torture.

With my thanks for your service to the nation we both love,

Edward Snowden

Gutsy move.

It is interesting that solid liberals like Greenwald and solid conservatives like the good senator are supporting the same man.

CONSERVATIVE SENATORS BEGIN FILIBUSTER ON RISE IN GAS TAX

By MARTIN TOLCHIN, Special to the New York Times

Published: December 11, 1982

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10— A small group of Senate conservatives began a filibuster today against legislation to increase the gasoline tax, and Republican leaders warned that they might have to keep the Senate in session Christmas week to dispose of the measure.

The filibuster was led by Senator Gordon J. Humphrey, Republican of New Hampshire, who acknowledged that ''some would suggest that we are being unreasonable'' by bottling up the bill and jeopardizing the Senate's Christmas vacation. ''But.'' he said, ''I would suggest that those who are trying to ramrod through this legislation are being unreasonable.''

''If raising gasoline taxes by a nickel is a way to produce jobs and prosperity, why limit it to a nickel?'' he asked.

The omnibus spending bill includes a provision to forgive loans of $200 million for Israel and $25 million for Egypt. Representative David R. Obey, Democrat of Wisconsin, argued against these grants, saying, ''We have a very delicate situation going on in the Middle East.'' Congress should not be making foreign policy decisions on such spending bills, he said. ''We would be sending the wrong signal to the world.''
The committee bill also includes a $600 million increase in funds for the Export-Import Bank. Other programs were continued at their fiscal 1982 levels.

They both understand the new paradigm. Tyranny vs. Liberty.

It's kind of random, but if anyone cares just to see who this guy is starts at 11:00. He seems to be a big fan of Thomas Sowell.

But don't expect ANYTHING of the sort from active politicians in Washington DC... the Military and Security Industrial Complexes... Either 'Bought & Paid For' or will 'Fund Their Opposition' if they support and threaten the corporate gravy train of billions in DOD contracts.

Just this morning, Booz Allen Hamilton(Snowden former employer) with a consortium of other MIC/SIC received a $900 Million Cyber Security Contract. They will destroy anyone that threatens their cash flow, power, or status quo.

Nothing surprising about that.

They don't even have to do it for the same reason. Humphrey can do it because he took an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and Greenwald (and other true liberals like Ted Rall) can do it because they understand what the Constitution preserves, protects and defends for us (or just because they like to see these things preserved, protected and defended).

The Snowden case is a perfect example of the new 'us vs. them' divide we are trying to create. It has nothing to do with gay marriage or abortion, or any of the other minutiae the corporatists try to divide us with so they can conquer us. It has everything to do with freedom vs. tyranny, and with right vs. wrong.

Use it. Use it with anyone who's willing to talk with you about Snowden. Use it for all you're worth.

Snowden is absolutely amazing. I wish I was eloquent enough to pay him the compliment he truly deserves. He is living proof that Patriot genes are still alive and well. No wonder our government wants to incarcerate him, so he can't have lots of children! They're worried about a "pandemic" like the Paul family threatening their corruption.

Hopefully, someday, we'll see a Snowden speaking tour... maybe add a few other guests to the mix, like; Judge Nap, Thomas Sewell, Tom Woods. Be a heck of a Liberty Tour message across the country and a huge drawn.

He is, it's true, and LOL.

But how could he not have had a second passport?! For a long time, I thought the transit area thing was just a ruse and he was actually sipping daiquiris on a sunny beach somewhere.
