This didn't come out of left field in my opinion. There must have been pressure from somewhere that forced the issue. Probably means there's way more then we know about ALL the recent scandals.

Rand should filibuster her replacement.

He could use it to get answers on domestic drones along with the FBI one. This is why Reid is going nuclear on appointments I think so they can be confirmed with 51 votes including a whole load of other bad appointments

(AP) – Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is resigning to become president of the University of California system. Napolitano told senior White House staff today she was leaving for California. Napolitano has led the department since the beginning of the Obama administration, just the third person to hold this post. White House officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because her resignation had not been announced publicly.

I would venture to guess that most UC students don't believe in liberty for anyone but themselves, so it is a perfect fit.

In related news, Cousin Janet has just announced that the UC campuses will be the most "wired" in the world. There will not be a single inch of the campuses not under video surveillance, all classrooms, shuttles, and walking paths, as well as dorms and restrooms will be monitored for audio. There will not be a single un-sniffed packet! She went on to state that these measures will make the UC campuses students and faculty the safest of any campus in the world. It will take a while to install the porno-scanners, but they are going to start up with body cavity searches right away!

As is the case when you find some huge spider or other nasty bit of business out in the open, whatever ran them off, is worse.

Although I did find a little joy in knowing her ugly mug will be gone.

Maybe she finally moved in with Danke.

"Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know."

Janet knows she can make more money in the so-called private sector--now that she was allowed to implement all the things she was allowed to implement as AG.

Goodbye cousin Janet.

Berkeley's loss is our gain.

Don't replace her, eliminate the whole department.

Considering the department was created to end the problem of various spying/enforcement agencies failing to coordinate, and Boston happened because the various spying/enforcement agencies failed to coordinate, yes, let's get rid of it.

Rather than having a fourteenth agency to coordinate the other thirteen, would we really not be better with one agency? Peel thirteen layers off that onion, and see how the thing that's left smells.

What's over, Matt? Surely you aren't so naive as to think her replacement will be one tiny bit different from her. Less ugly, maybe (maybe), but no different.

Napolitano resigns as Homeland Security secretary

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who has handled hot-button issues ranging from immigration to counter-terrorism, said Friday she is resigning to run the University of California and its system of colleges.

"I thank President Obama for the chance to serve our nation during this important chapter in our history," Napolitano said in a statement. "And I know the Department of Homeland Security will continue to perform its important duties with the honor and focus that the American public expects."

Obama praised Napolitano's performance during four-and-a-half years at the Department of Homeland Security, noting that its responsibilities during her tenure ranged from the Joplin tornado to Hurricane Sandy, as well as efforts to thwart terrorism.

"Since day one, Janet has led my administration's effort to secure our borders, deploying a historic number of resources, while also taking steps to make our immigration system fairer and more consistent with our values," Obama said. "And the American people are safer and more secure thanks to Janet's leadership in protecting our homeland against terrorist attacks."
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2013/07/12/obama-napolitano-department-of-homeland-security/2511755/

Talk about blowing smoke! Despite Obama's claims, I didn't realize our borders were secure, our immigration system was fairer, or that we are safer and more secure, especially due to Big Sis' leadership in protecting our homeland against terrorist attacks. I just remember Big Sis stating it was impossible to secure the border, especially through the national park in southern Arizona where she acknowleged cartels were operating. I also remember Big Sis and her department verbally targeting conservatives, constitutionalists, lovers of liberty, veterans, and other members of our society, while her storm troopers infringed on civil liberties. I certainly do NOT feel safer and more secure! Do any of you?

I just know the beast will be gone and we will be a step closer to being a free republic again. But, someone will be along to take her place. She's not the only problem. The department in and of itself needs to go.

You also can't help but wonder, if she is bailing before the chit goes down ... in order not to have her ugly "code word" name associated with it. Does anyone know her real name?

I mean really, does anyone out there really know anyone named Janet? Janet Reno and Janet Napolitano. Who will the next Janet be?

She was Janet when she was a rather unpopular governor of my home state. If she has another name, I don't know of it.
