According to the plaintiffs in a Florida lawsuit, the state inadvertently banned all computer and cell phones in a hasty attempt to crack down on Internet gambling.
In an attempt to ban electronic gambling houses, House Bill 155 classifies “any machine or device or system or network of systems” that could be used for games of skill or chance that could yield the user something of value as electronic slot machines.
The suit was filed by a LLC owned by a Florida woman who operates an Internet cafe used by migrant workers in South Florida, alleging that they are unfairly grouped in with the online gambling cafes that were targeted by legislators and that the wording of the bill essentially bans all computers and smartphones in the entire state.
“The Florida Legislature rushed to pass broad – sweeping amendments to existing statutes that violate the United States Constitution in a frenzy fueled by distorted judgment in the wake of a scandal that included the Lieutenant Governor’s resignation,” reads the suit filed on behalf of Incredible Investments, LLC in Miami-Dade County.
No word yet if anyone has been booked on iPhone possession charges.

I'm sure it will be fine. After all, Texas banned all drip coffee makers years ago, and you can still buy them OTC, no questions asked.

EVERYTHING IS ILLEGAL... we'll just let you know what's legal after you're arrested and confiscate everything you have... not to ever see it again.
For every $100 in gambling, $99 is bet illegally. The state apparatus has been trying to end private betting for decades, it keeps growing.

This is one of the reasons its so easy to not like republicans - knee jerk reactions.
A Republican official got caught being involved with getting money from an internet cafe outfit that was actually an illegal gambling hall. So of course they reacted by making all internet cafes illegal. And accidentally made cell phones and computers in the process.

Now, now...
Prosecutors really do have your best interest at heart.
No need to worry or bother rewriting or repealing this legislation, it's for your own good.
Think of all the money it'll save families, think of the children...

because democrats never have knee jerk reactions? ie gun laws
I think the correct way to phrase your statement would be to substitute "most politicians" in place of Republicans.

The WSJ article is locked, but here's the first line of the story. Sometimes if you Google it, you can get in to the articles that way.
Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, a Republican and the first African-American to be elected to statewide office there, abruptly resigned Tuesday night after law-enforcement officials questioned her ties to a veterans charity that prosecutors claim was a front for illegal gambling.
Last i heard she denied any wrong-doing and maintained that she resigned because the governor asked her to. The deal was a guy was running internet gambling cafes in the name of charity, but not actually giving any money to the veterans he was supposed to be helping.
Here's a brief interview; http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-05-31/news/fl-jennifer-carroll-rick-scott-20130531_1_allied-veterans-lieutenant-governor-veterans-affairs

I lived in Florida for years.. Never had trouble getting work,, was disappointed with the direction politics was going and move back to my home state of Michigan.
I have been unemployed for over 6 years. I have been arrested and convicted for a gun that I did not own. (my wife's) simply because it was in my home.
You can talk shit about Florida... but we have Detroit. :(
