Have recent SCOTUS ruling on marriage freedom and discrimination/civil rights for consenting Americans made following null and void?

Legal status of polygamy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_polygamy)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_status_of_polygamy‎
Bigamy laws throughout the United States. Misdemeanor. Felony. All forms of cohabitation outlawed. See also: Utah War, ...

On a side note, when I typed "polygamy", good search suggested "polygamy in bible", wonder if many biblical students search for it?

Well I hope the state leaves them alone, I don't know if we will see pride celebrations.

If people were rational, polygamy would be accepted long before homosexuality. From the perspective of biological evolution, some polygamy is necessary to maximize average fertility (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sub-replacement_fertility) (i.e. when a woman wants kids, but can't find a suitable partner), and to reduce the number of single mothers. Polygamy brings economic benefits, while homosexuality only brings economic losses in fertility, per-capita time devoted to parenting, and health risk management (though the losses caused by gov't oppression of homosexuality can be much worse).

Good arguments.

This also now a civil rights/discrimination issue.

Polygamist activists have welcomed the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage, a decision they hope will usher in the legal recognition ...

I don't really care who marries who, but the polygamists just don't have the numbers or social acceptance to do legalize it.

Sounds good to me , I want to add a couple sheep to the family , so the fuckers have to pay back all the social security to something that they have stolen from the wife and I as we will not live long enough to get it all back.

Number of Americans who heterosexualy mate with more than a woman/man at a time are small? All surveys show that they are far more than Americans involved n same-sex activities.

There are always more women interested in having a stable family & kids than men. Men are just more likely to be homosexual, or satisfied with no/low-commitment sex. Polygamy is inevitable, whether you have a gov't trying to tyrannically prohibit it or not.

Polygamy is natural, and prohibition on polygamy is an early example of socialism - demagogue priests / politicians buying power by legislating in favor of the underperforming majority... Punishing the competent (desirable husbands), rewarding the incompetent...

Neither did homosexuals in the 90s.

I would gladly walk with them although government should not be involved in marriage.

Sleeping around isn't the same as living and having children in the same home with 2 wives. Either is none of my business, but they are not the same.

If they get the social acceptance more power to them, what they do in their home is none of my business. But I would guess there are under 100k polygamists in the US and gays are something like 3% of the population. So the numbers just aren't there.

I'm married. The thought of more than one wife is terrifying.

I never heard living in same house or having children was requirement for polygmous mrriages, not sure where that notion is coming from. There are no kids produced in gay marriage either
Neither did all the same sex couples live in same house or adopted kids till SCOTUS ruling on DOMA came out.

Heterosexual polygomous mating behavior without the formal marriage is probably infintely larger in %age than was same sex mating behavior.
Before courts legalized gay marriage , how many gay married couples were in the US.. about zero.

In the face court ruling on civil rights and discrimination of consenting adult marriage candidates, social acceptance is a moot issue. But considering number of Bible reading Christians in America, wont be surpried if after legalization polygamy could end up with far greater social acceptance than gay marriage.

i don't see this as an issue. The real issue is people who can't seem to mind their own fucking business.

This sounds rational to me :)
