The Obama administration will not penalize businesses that do not provide health insurance in 2014, the Treasury Department announced Tuesday.

Instead, it will delay enforcement of a major Affordable Care Act requirement that all employers with more than 50 employees provide coverage to their workers until 2015.

Guessing they're trying to neutralize it from being a midterm issue.

It really bugs me that the President can simply waive the requirements whenever he wants. Its really like we have a monarch than a constitutionally bound elected official, and rule of man far more than rule of law.

Need to let the media, Hollywood and NFL work on public opinion a little.

No doubt, RPFan. Everyone hates it. If Dems were smart, they'd repeal it themselves. But that would mean admitting they made a mistake, and they're too proud for that.

Antle is on fire with snark today, but this is an exception:

Jim Antle ‏@jimantle (https://twitter.com/jimantle) In all seriousness, this is why conservatives should not treat Obamacare as a settled issue.

Yup. Picking and choosing what laws to enforce.

Also:

Jim Antle ‏@jimantle (https://twitter.com/jimantle/status/352195726861807617) Keeping the individual mandate while delaying the employer mandate must be a way of reminding us corporations aren't people.

The NFL actually says now that they won't get involved after receiving this letter. LOL

"Given the divisiveness and persistent unpopularity of the bill, it is difficult to understand why an organization like yours would risk damaging its inclusive and apolitical brand by lending its name to its promotion," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, (R-Ky.), and Minority Whip John Cornyn, (R-Texas), wrote last week.

The worst part is it is done without any regard for real world consequences. I work a lot with people in the health insurance industry and a change like this is no "small thing". It's bad enough there is this horrendous monstrosity of a bill. At least eventually we can figure out what is in it and plan for it. But to have it be made up along the way/changed at will just cripples industry and ultimately hurts individuals.

Did the health insurance companies already raise their rates???

On tap to be raised in January. Beginning Oct 1, people can start shopping the new ObamaPolicies.

This is what I got today from Cigna:

Coverage Requirement
Ensuring everyone gets access to health care coverage
A key part of health care reform is the Coverage Mandate, a new rule that requires everyone to have health insurance. By 2014, almost all U.S. citizens and legal residents will need to have some type of health coverage for themselves and their dependents, or pay a tax penalty.

January 1, 2014, is when individual health insurance coverage purchased through the new health insurance Marketplace for your state first becomes effective.

You can begin enrolling in one of these new Marketplace plans during the first Open Enrollment Period that begins October 1, 2013, and lasts until December 15, 2013. In order to avoid a tax penalty, you must have some form of insurance coverage by March 31, 2014. Enrolling in one of the plans offered through the health insurance Marketplace for your state will allow you to avoid this tax.

Health care reform marks a fundamental shift in the way premiums are calculated. Beginning in 2014, insurers can’t use pre-existing conditions or other health factors in setting the premium. To a limited extent, your age, where you live, how many in your family are covered, and whether you use tobacco products are the only factors that can be considered.

Because of the new rating rules, some people will pay less for 2014 premiums than they did in 2013. However, many people may pay more.

For all age groups, no one will pay more than three times what anyone else pays for the same plan. This is called the 3:1 Age Rating, because the ratio between the highest premium amount and the lowest can’t be greater than 3:1.

Health care reform provides two forms of assistance to help those with low to moderate incomes pay for insurance coverage they buy through the Marketplace:

Premium tax credits are general cost reductions that lower your monthly premiums or provide a credit toward your annual income tax each year.

Cost-sharing reductions provide assistance for specific medical expenses, like prescriptions and procedures.

Health Insurance plans offered through Marketplaces will have different levels of coverage, called "metal levels." Platinum is the highest level, followed by Gold, Silver and Bronze.

It’s important to choose the right level of coverage for your situation. Generally speaking, the more you pay in monthly premiums, the more the plan pays toward your health care costs when you see a doctor or get a prescription filled. A Platinum plan will usually cover a larger portion of health care costs, making it a great option for someone who needs more frequent and comprehensive care. However, for someone who uses fewer health care services, a bronze plan with lower monthly premiums may be a better option.
