The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced they thwarted a terror plot inspired by Al-Qaeda ideology, although officials would not explain further.

"We're confident with the arrest of these two individuals we've disrupted this threat," an official said during the news conference.

The two suspects left a package outside the British Columbia legislature Monday, which was Canada Day, a holiday celebrating when the colonies united to become one country.

Officials arrested John Stewart Nuttall, 38, and Amanda Marie Korody, 28 or 29, on various charges, including knowingly facilitating a terrorist activity and possession of an explosive substance.

The package did contain shrapnel-packed pressure cookers.

The RCMP said during the news conference there were no ties to the Boston Marathon bombing, and the package placed at the building was not near any crowds of people.

On April 22, Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced they had arrested two men allegedly connected to al Qaeda. Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, and Raed Jaser, 35, were accused of plotting to attack a passenger train traveling from Canada to the U.S.
