Saline County Sheriff Arrested for Public Intoxication

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - Just before 8 pm Saturday night Saline County Sheriff's deputies responded to Denton's Trotline on a report of a very intoxicated person.

Upon arrival officers encountered a subject, later identified as Bruce Pennington, 62, sitting inside a vehicle that was not running in the parking lot.

Officers believed Pennington to be intoxicated and attempted to convince him to have somebody pick him up and drive him home. Pennington became belligerent with officers and was subsequently placed under arrest. He was transported to the Benton Police Department for processing without further incident.

Given the unique situation, Pennington was not detained in the Saline County Detention Facility. Saline County Chief Deputy Bill Fields was contacted and was in agreement with releasing him to a family member.

Pennington was given citations for public intoxication and refusal to submit to arrest. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.

Our local sheriff was arrested for DUI recently. His son was also arrested soon afterwards, Daddy couldn't make it all go away this time. The son should have gotten a lot more than he did but at least he has to leave the state. Link in the other thread.
