In case you don't pay attention to international new, some parts of Canada have flooded extensively over the past week, predictably resulting in some mandatory evacuations.
People in some areas still aren't allowed back into their homes. During the protests, they discovered another disturbing event: they had been robbed by the police.
The RCMP revealed Thursday that officers had seized a “substantial” number of firearms from homes in the evacuated town of High River, about 37 kilometres south Calgary.
“We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,” said Sgt. Brian Topham. “People have a significant amount of money invested in firearms … so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re safe.”
He did confirm that officers relied on forced entry to get into numerous houses during the early stages of the flood because of an “urgent need.”
The guns will be returned to owners after residents are allowed back in town and they provide proof of ownership, Topham added.
From the comments:
They took the guns in an attempt to get the ones that were not registered and used a lie to do it. These people just experienced flooding in their homes so if they had proof and it is destroyed they will not get their guns back. Confiscation by the local government, hide your guns good before they come up with another lame excuse to come breaking in again and taking more.
