I like to have a bit of fun, lets imagine which states would go first and who would follow.
The template:
http://www.yourchildlearns.com/images/map-of-united-states.gif

My take:
Remember RED=FED

And in my opinion it would not necressarily be an entire state leaving, maybe sections. Some states will be split or wait til a victor emerges, those are red/blue

Excuse my poor highlighting skills.

I think the big cities and high population states will largely go fed or remain neutral.

I tried t ohighlight the fed areas as best as possible, namely that most coastline will be fed. Most inland and river access would be blue.

Also keep in mind that not all the blue areas would be the same side. I imagine the northerners would keep to themselves mostly.

All of Northern VA, all of MD, and the eastern half of WV would all be federal.
There's a ton of MIC all along the Chesapeake, so basically eastern VA would all be fed from the coast to at least 50 miles inland.

I suspect that, just like last time, this is where the most intense fighting would be.

All I know is, in a TEOTWAWKI event, I would head to Texas or Colorado. Open spaces, fresh water, mountains/hills, good soil, and lots of like-minded folks.

Edit - That would be western colorado... not that freakin hippy side of the state.

I'd book a flight to Israel faster than you could say "The Jews did it!"

I wouldn't mind seeing southern IL, southern IN and western KY forming a new state. :)

I think all the red states and red areas in swing or blue states will secede and form an alliance. The feds will try to nationalize the national guards but I think they will stay loyal to their state. The swing and blue states is where all the violence will be because politically different areas will try to leave. I'm worried the U.N will get involved and help the feds take back the seceding states.

My dream?

Quebec secession isolates the Maritime provinces of Canada from the Ottawa government.

They, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Labrador and Newfoundland, join the seceding Northern New England states of NH, VT and ME.

They become the "Atlantic Alliance" or something similar.

I will fence off the beautiful part of Granite Canyon where Granite Creek ties into the Snake River near Jackson Hole, WY; rename it Awesomeville, and then be the new mayor of Awesomeville. You are all invited too.

Fresh water sources (long term) are the most important in a post collapse environment. Arizona is F__ked, for the most part... Idaho/wyoming/montana are my dream prepper locations....

And with what is the UN going to move in with,a warning to stop the violence?Because that is the only thing the UN can ever do.A government hiring foreign mercenaries and brining in allied/puppet nations soldiers for help is a much larger problem

I could live with that. People from Quebec are a little odd though. I generally like people I've met from NS and NB, plus we'd have the trailer park boys. I don't think I've ever met anyone from newfoundland. Just no massholes please.

Strange. You mentioned how fresh water sources are the most important and than said ID/WY/MT are your dream locations. You mean, they would be good if they had more water so you dream about them? There are already parts up there without fresh water. Some people might even live there, but they have to go to the store and buy water.

The rainiest parts of the country are the northern Pacific Coast, parts of AK, HI, the East and parts of the Midwest.

If you could store the melted snow and keep it safe to drink year round, that would open up ID/WY/MT a lot more. If not, best to avoid the vast major of those 3 states.

I know plenty of places in Idaho with virtually unlimited fresh water and zero people... There are multitudes of lakes, streams, and rivers in the places I mentioned.

Well, you learn something new everyday. I did not know that, maybe I'll go buy their CD. I just fell in love with that area after doing a week long study on aquatic macroinvertebrates out there. You would wake up with moose literally yards from you.
