I'd like to see what y'all feel are appropriate ways of handling local issues. Here are a few scenarios:

1. There exists an older neighborhood and the roads were not planned so one residential road is often used by non-locals as a through street and travel at very fast speeds. There are no sidewalks and those would cost a lot of tax money to install. Thoughts on local residents petitioning city hall to change the road to a one-way and painting 1/3 of the road as pedestrian use only? Minimal tax use.

2. Situations were property owners (either residents or slum lords) fail to do basic maintenance to their property to the point where it drives down other property values, is unsafe, and promotes ghettoization of the neighborhood. Aside from moving or buying the properties (not always practical solutions) what are okay ways of handing situations like that?

There are a few more I'd like to check out in the future but these are two good ones to start with.
