(CNN) - With firefighters close to extinguishing one of the most destructive fires in Colorado's history, investigators have "all but ruled out natural causes" in the blaze near Colorado Springs, a sheriff told reporters Thursday.

Authorities still are determining what caused this month's 16,000-acre Black Forest Fire, which killed two people, destroyed more than 500 structures and prompted tens of thousands of people to flee.

But investigators scouring a 24-square-foot area where the fire is thought to have started believe a natural cause is out of the question, El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said.

If NSA snooping didn't stop the forest fires, it is time to implant people with GPS devices.

HOW MANY MORE FORESTS MUST BE BURNT DOWN BEFORE WE REALIZE IT IS TIME TO ANKLE BRACELET ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS!!!?!! BLOOD IS ON ALL YOUR HANDS!

Can't wait until they find Abduramili Al-hazzani's passport and driver's license next to a pair of gas cans and a picture of himself on his lost i-phone setting a bible on fire.

I can't believe people are willing to risk our precious national parks and forests just because they think an ankle bracelet might invade their privacy a little bit. Apparently these selfish people don't care that two people DIED in these wildfires.

1985 bombing

In 1981, MOVE relocated to a row house at 6221 Osage Avenue in the Cobbs Creek area of West Philadelphia. Neighbors complained for months that MOVE members were broadcasting political messages by bullhorn at all hours and also about the health hazards created from piles of compost. On May 13, 1985, after the complaints as well as indictments of numerous MOVE members for crimes including parole violation, contempt of court, illegal possession of firearms, and making terrorist threats,[8] the police department attempted to clear the building and arrest the indicted MOVE members. This led to an armed standoff with police.[9] The police lobbed tear gas canisters at the building. MOVE members fired at the police, and the police returned fire with semiautomatic weapons.[10] A police helicopter then dropped two one-pound bombs made of Water gel explosive, a dynamite substitute, targeting a fortified, bunker-like cubicle on the roof of the house.[11]

The resulting fire ignited a massive blaze which eventually destroyed 65 houses nearby.[2][12][11] Eleven people, including John Africa, five other adults and five children, died in the resulting fire.[13] Romona Africa, one of the two survivors, claimed that police fired at those trying to escape the burning house, while the police stated that MOVE members had been firing at police.[14]
Aftermath

Mayor W. Wilson Goode soon appointed an investigative commission called the PSIC or MOVE commission. It issued its report on March 6, 1986. The report denounced the actions of the city government, stating that "Dropping a bomb on an occupied row house was unconscionable."[15] No one from the city government was charged criminally.

In a 1996 civil suit in US federal court, a jury ordered the City of Philadelphia to pay $1.5 million to a survivor and relatives of two people killed in the bombing. The jury found that the city used excessive force and violated the members' constitutional protection against unreasonable search and seizure.[13] Philadelphia was given the sobriquet "The City that Bombed Itself."[16][17]

On the 25th Anniversary of the 1985 Police bombing, the Philadelphia Inquirer created a detailed multimedia site containing retrospective articles, archived articles, videos, interviews, photos, and a timeline of the events.[18]

This article is about the Japanese World War II weapon. For the small unmanned festive hot air balloon, see sky lantern.
Shot-down fire balloon reinflated by Americans in California

A fire balloon (風船爆弾 fūsen bakudan?, lit. "balloon bomb"), or Fu-Go, was a weapon launched by Japan during World War II. A hydrogen balloon with a load varying from a 12-kilogram (26 lb) incendiary to one 15 kg (33 lb) antipersonnel bomb and four 5 kg (11 lb) incendiary devices attached, they were designed as a cheap weapon intended to make use of the jet stream over the Pacific Ocean and wreak havoc on Canadian and American cities, forests, and farmland.

The balloons were relatively ineffective as weapons but were used in one of the few attacks on North America during World War II.

Between November 1944 and April 1945, Japan launched over 9,300 fire balloons. About 300 balloon bombs were found or observed in North America, killing six people and causing a small amount of damage.[1]

Dresden after the bombing raid

The Bombing of Dresden was an attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place in the final months of the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city.[1] The resulting firestorm destroyed fifteen square miles (39 square kilometres) of the city centre. Between 22,000 and 25,000 people were killed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_bomb

Bat bombs were an experimental World War II weapon developed by the United States. The bomb consisted of a bomb-shaped casing with numerous compartments, each containing a Mexican Free-tailed Bat with a small timed incendiary bomb attached. Dropped from a bomber at dawn, the casings would deploy a parachute in mid-flight and open to release the bats which would then roost in eaves and attics. The incendiaries would start fires in inaccessible places in the largely wood and paper construction of the Japanese cities that were the weapon's intended target.

The US had been planning to do a Dresden style incendiary attack on all of Japan's major cities before the 2 nukes made that unnecessary.

Natural Causes "All But Ruled Out"

Then exactly what was the cause? If you have ruled out other causes there must be some physical and definitive reason.

They are just saying it wasn't a lightning strike. That leaves arson or some dufus that doesn't know how to make a safe camp fire or put one out. Could have been someone tossing a lit cigarette butt too.

What's missing from this story is that they found the governments approach to forestry management is flawed. That forests need to burn from time to time to clear out overgrowth, especially low overgrowth so that sun can get in there and you have diverse ecosystems of meadows and others of tall trees, etc.

Also central to this is that despite this happening every year, people still insist on building and living in houses right next to trees that are part of the forest. Kind of like some people insist on building houses right on the ocean and having to get gvmt flood insurance because they get wrecked so often the insurance companies won't touch them. I'm just amazed we don't have government underwritten forest fire insurance yet.
