The terms are based on European political parties and ideologies. You essentially scored as a very moderate libertarian or a libertarian Republican. Some of the questions were hard: For instance "Gays should get the exact same rights as straights" well... yes... we all have the same human rights. But there is no right for the state to endorse your behavior through gay marriage recognition, nor is there any "right" to entitlements, nor is there necessarily a human right to adopt kids or teach at a private school (That one Catholic teacher didn't have her rights violated.)

Some of the questions were difficult because its hard to separate parental authority, or a moral view, from governmental authority.

"Do you need God to have a coherent system of moral values?" Ultimately, I believe so: without God I don't think its really possible to rationally defend inalienable rights. That said, people still try, and I definitely don't think atheists are inherently unfit for political office. So it was tricky. I agreed with it but I don't agree with the possible inclination that all atheists are significantly more evil than everyone else.

And physical punishment: yeah I support that and I just know it made me more authoritarian. I don't support prisons, and I do support flogging for some violent crimes although I also support an option for the victim to accept monetary compensation instead. If the test takers feel that its more authoritarian to administer 20 lashes for assault than to imprison for 20 years than fine, I'm a dirty, rotten authoritarian.

I do support the OT Biblical limit of 40 lashes though (Or 39, I'm not really sure where Jewish law got 39, I know the Bible says "Don't do it more than 40 times", that's something I'll have to ask on a theology forum). I don't support strictly applying Old Testament law, I think a lot of elements of it (Such as stoning gays, adulterers, exc.) were specifically intended for Israel as God's Chosen Nation, but I think there are things there that were simply wise and are good ideas to apply. I definitely think what they do in some Islamic countries where they flog people hundreds of times is cruel and inhumane but I don't think flogging is inherently inhumane.

That one question cant be the only thing making my score high. I was actually a little disappointed in the low-ness for the capitalist scores I saw on this thread. We are libertarians....where is your love of free markets people! come on.
