Please allow me to update you on some of this week's happenings.
Senate Rejects Border Security Amendment
On Thursday, the Senate voted on Amendment 1195 (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/a35db521f539e89527ff23c5cd988c2b/1401316643/realurl=http:/lis.gov/cgi-lis/query/R?r113:FLD001:S04219) to S. 744 (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/a35db521f539e89527ff23c5cd988c2b/1401316643/realurl=http:/www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-113s744rs/pdf/BILLS-113s744rs.pdf), the immigration reform bill. The amendment, which would strengthen border security, was rejected.
It is very disappointing that the Senate rejected this first step to fixing the border security issue in the immigration bill. If any immigration bill is to pass, the Senate needs to be more serious about securing our border. I am in favor of immigration reform and I view it as an important issue that must be handled properly. But, in order for reform to take place, we must first secure our nation's border.
Sen. Grassley's amendment could have been a good first step. I will insist that the Senate revisit this issue next week with my 'Trust but Verify' amendment.

Sen. Paul Speaks at Immigration Forum
Also this week, I spoke at an immigration forum held by the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles. In my speech, I talked about immigration reform and highlighted the socially conservative values that affect the Latino community.

On Wednesday, I welcomed members of the Kentucky Junior Historical Society to Washington, D.C. These students represented our state in the National History Day competition.

Sen. Paul Meets with Students at Orthodox Jewish Day School
Also on Monday, I met with students from Tiferes Bais Yaakov, an Orthodox Jewish day school in Lakewood, N.J. We discussed the trip I took earlier this year to Israel and foreign policy issues.

Sen. Rand Paul Plays in the 52nd Annual Congressional Baseball Game
On Thursday night, I joined my Republican colleagues in a baseball game against the Democrats. The event takes place at Nationals Park and raises money for The Washington Literacy Center, the Boys and Girls Club, and the National Dream Foundation. It was a wonderful evening -- even though the Democrats beat us 22-0.
