I like to bring up Ron Paul a lot these days, especially in light of the NSA spying, Patriot Act etc.

Immigration is heating up as well so I went to find some of his quotes. What a perfect response:

the problem in the bills -- all of them -- being considered is they all don't just legalize illegal immigrants, to prevent arguably 'cruel and unusual' punishment for those here a long time breaking no other laws, they reward them with taxpayer funded programs in already failing programs the people who fund the programs rely on-- now augmented by Obamacare. We don't have the infrastructure to support the world, we built it and funded it America sized -- and not even that, it is already failing people. And this ignores the automatic, once citizens, chain migration for those family of currently illegal immigrants who self select to come here -- again incentivized by taxpayer programs taxpayers depend on. Those who pay less into the system than they take out are given incentive to come, legally and illegally, since after all, we always legalize them. Those who want the taxpayers to pick up health care for employees not paid a living wage etc think this is a great idea. They typically aren't dependent on public schools, health care, etc that is being stretched too thin. The taxpayers, feel differently..

There are obvious, common sense ways to address this, but that doesn't get all the special interest boondoggles in there that all of these bills have, and since our government clearly is working for special interests and not the people, the government refuses to use the common sense approaches to deal with this.
