I blog with liberals a lot because I want to know what they think and how they spin the news.

We all know Obama is on record voting against the PA when he was in the senate and one of his campaign promises was that he would end it. I thought Obama had the chance to end it when it expired on his watch but the liberals that I blog with insist that the republicans would not let him end it. Is this true that the republicans blocked him from ending the Patriot Act? What do you know about it?

It was indicated in reports that dropping of FBI's espionage investigations of foreign lobby AIPAC and case was done by Obama in 2009 quietly on pressure of his campaign pocket warmers and not Republicans. But when it comes to Americans, he swings in the opposite direction.

I guess your friends could argue that he didn't renew it... it was his evil autopen. I remember thinking that this really seemed like a slap to the face having him using this thing to extend the wiretapping.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autopen

While visiting France, President Obama authorized the use of an autopen to create his signature which signed into law an extension of three provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act.[11] On January 3, 2013, he signed the extension to the Bush tax cuts, preventing the 'fiscal cliff', using the Autopen while vacationing in Hawaii.[12] In order to sign it by the required deadline, his other alternative would have been to have had the bill flown to him overnight.[13] Republican leaders have raised questions as to whether this use of the Autopen meets the Constitutional requirement for signing a bill into law[14] but the validity of presidential use of an autopen has not been actually tested in court.[15] During his term in office, George W. Bush asked for and received a favourable opinion[7] from the Department of Justice regarding the constitutionality of using the autopen, but did not use it himself.[16]
