For society to function well, there have to be basic levels of trust and cooperation, a respect for institutions and deference to common procedures. By deciding to unilaterally leak secret N.S.A. documents, Snowden has betrayed all of these things.

How dare he break the trust by showing people how their government is lying to them?!!

What a moronic argument.

Trust in anything or anyone should be both earned and mutual!

If the government didn't even trust us enough to know this secret program has existed for SIX YEARS and hence, lied to us about it, why in blazes shouldn't we rescind every bit of trust we had in them to begin with?

For society government to function well at all [?], there have to be basic levels of trust blind faith and cooperation obedience, a respect for institutions refusal to question authority and deference to common procedures submission to arbitrary bureaucratic diktats. By deciding to unilaterally heroically leak secret N.S.A. documents, Snowden has betrayed undermined all of these things.

There. Fixed it for you, you mealy-mouthed asshole.

Actually, this highlights differences in Myers-Briggs personality types. Some types feel that respect (and trust) must be earned. Other types believe that it comes from position, title and/or costume.
