RON PAUL....

What a true patriot and HERO.

H/T tsai

Lets make a sub-forum to support this brave man!

[mod: from posts further down it looks like opensecrets also shows an additional $199.99 prior to the two $250 donations for a total of $699.99]

That settles it. He's clearly a right wing extremist tea party flag waving racist! Burn him at the stake!

Ten bonus points for the first person who finds the left's inevitable attack on his character.

Looks like he donated $500 in total actually, and there is also a second address listed in Maryland. The main NSA facility is in Maryland I think, so it would make sense that he lived there at one time.

Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

Actually, he's donated even more.

Here's his Maryland $250 donation. It lists election cycle-to-date contributions of $449.99, which means he also contributed $199.99 prior to the $250 donation. It sure seems like he donated just under $200 so it wouldn't be reported by the FEC.

I figured that was coming when he went to Hong Kong.

We don't know enough about him to know for a fact it isn't true, and I don't see how we could ever know, so I'm going to take him at face value until I see reason not to.

I voted for the wrong thing on sodahead, I voted that he is a hero. There was another choice I should have chosen about 'working to change government so his sacrifice will not be in vain', but I didn't read all the choices before I voted. I think Obama and congress ignoring their oath to the Constitution is worse than what he did, by far, but he put himself in the line of fire, working where he did, and with the agreements he had to have signed. As Ron says, when you practice civil disobedience, you are doing it despite the risk of consequences, not because there are none. I hope the political fallout from this makes it as unacceptable to 'go after' him as it would have been to prosecute for the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam war.

They are obviously getting their information from this thread, yet give no credit. They should have at least waited for subsequent follow-up posts correcting the total amount donated. Or maybe the dailycaller's copycat just didn't comprehend what he was reading.

"OpenSecrets.org*shows*that Snowden twice donated*$250 to Paul’s campaign, once on March 18, 2012 from a Maryland address, and a second time on May 6, 2012 from Hawaii. Paul ceased active campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination on May 14, 2012."

it is so past the time for an enclave stateside where folks like this can "disappear" to and be among friends. Also, we really ought to consider setting up a pony express. Folks, something tells me that things are gonna be escalating soon. We've organized for money bombs, we've organized for blimps (seriously, no lie), we may very well need to begin organizing for more serious matters. We need to get to know each other personally. We need to make sure we are connected outside the forum. I am scared for this guy, and I am scared for others who are probably in a very close situation to his. I think for every one of these guys that are gonna start stepping forward, there are 100 more waiting in the wings. Overall, this is an amazing development and I am proud to be a part of a movement that will put everything on the line for truth, liberty, and principle. I hope all of you would do the exact same thing if the opportunity arises.

The attempt to smear him, painting him as a loser who is not a hero or patriotic begins...

directorblue.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-resume-of-nsa-whistleblower-edward.html

I'd hate to be in the Public Relations department at government contractor Booz Allen Hamilton this weekend. It's not just the fact that Snowden is/was a Booz employee (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/09/booz-allen-hamilton-edward-snowden).

Booz Allen Hamilton, Edward Snowden's employer, is one of America's biggest security contractors and a significant part of the constantly revolving door between the US intelligence establishment and the private sector.

The current of director [sic] of national intelligence (DNI), James Clapper, who issued a stinging attack on the intelligence leaks this weekend, is a former Booz Allen executive.
And it's not just that DNI Clapper is an ex-BAH exec and his statement is just a tad embarrassing.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5iyu3o6fnqM/UbUliiCJA8I/AAAAAAABMdw/gzzNdCg4nsg/s400/130609-edward-snowden.jpg (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/09/edward-snowden-nsa-whistleblower-surveillance)No, let's examine the reported resume of Snowden (dates are estimated):

• Raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and later moved to Maryland.

• Attended a community college, but never completed his coursework and never graduated from high school.

• 2003-2004: U.S. Army, discharged after training accident

• 2005: NSA, Security Guard, University of Maryland.

• 2006: CIA, IT security.

• 2007-2009: CIA, diplomatic cover, Switzerland.

• 2009-2013: NSA Contractor, Dell and later Booz Allen Hamilton.

• Salary: around $200,000.

What? Seriously? So a guy who never even graduated from high school (he later reportedly earned a G.E.D.) and started his professional career as a security guard, got hired by a couple of defense contractors and -- at age 29 -- was making $200K a year?

If this story is true, I don't know what's more bizarre: the leak itself or the sheer profligacy of the federal spending machine.

Anyone listening to him speak in the video here http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/09/edward-snowden-nsa-whistleblower-surveillance quickly comes to realize that the above paints a very misleading portrait of the man.

SNOWDEN ranks # 3081 in terms of the most common surnames in the United States for 2000.

SNOWDEN had 10,788 occurrences in the 2000 Census, according the U.S. government records.

His background is odd to say the least and the "200k a year" might be an exaggeration (no one has seen his payslips).

He did work for Dell between his stint at the CIA and the contractor so it's not easy to question his credentials since he's been in the commercial sector.
