Gun Owners of America director Larry Pratt has been going-all out against immigration reform, warning that immigrants will “vote to take away our guns (http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/larry-pratt-immigration-reform-and-ted-cruz-s-loyalty)” and are “going to be probably just sitting around drawing welfare and voting Democrat (http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/pratt-reform-will-grant-citizenship-gazillion-immigrants-wholl-be-sitting-around-drawing-wel).” He told radio host Steve Deace earlier this week that if a reform bill passes, “you can buh bye to your guns and buh bye to the rest of your freedom because this would be a country that had been californicated.”

In an action alert (http://capwiz.com/gunowners/issues/alert/?alertid=62706436) this week, GOA tells its members to call their senators and oppose immigration reform because if it passes “you could lose all your guns before 2035.”

“By 2035,” the alert warns, “the battle will no longer be about stopping the expansion of background checks. Most likely, it will be about stopping the government from coming to take your guns away.”

You Could Lose all your Guns before 2035 under the Amnesty Bill before the Senate

Contact your Senators and urge them to vote against the anti-gun immigration amnesty bill.

We’ve written you before about the immigration amnesty bill that will be debated on the Senate floor beginning June 10.

We had just been through a hard fight to stop gun bans and registration. And some of you may have even felt the immigration amnesty was not a “gun” issue.

But if the amnesty bill is passed, within 20 years, Washington could be as anti-gun as Albany, Hartford, and Sacramento.

This is because the bill will create at least 11,500,000 new citizens -- but probably closer to 20,000,000 -- and, if history is any guide, they will vote 71% of the time for far Left Democrats like Barack Obama.

By 2035, the battle will no longer be about stopping the expansion of background checks. Most likely, it will be about stopping the government from coming to take your guns away. And there is nothing we will be able to do about it.

If it gave citizenship to every illegal alien currently in the country, it would b 10.6 million. Less than half would likely be elgible (depending on what criteria is finally decided on). No possible way for the total new citizens to reach 20 million.

The number of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. plummeted to 10.8 million in 2009, from 11.6 million the previous year, marking the sharpest decline in years and coinciding with the economic downturn, according to a new report by the Department of Homeland Security.

They can sponsor family members as you know.. and the figures from new immigrants are used to work out the average amount they will bring in to get the 30 million figure NumbersUSA use.

The fact that Pratt's position on this has nothing to do with the right to bear arms is proven by his own position saying that illegal immigrants don't have that right.

They will only vote to take away the guns that Americans won't vote to take away.

He is playing on two fears. Fear of guns being taken away and fear of illegal immigrants and the fear of welfare queens.

“going to be probably just sitting around drawing welfare and voting Democrat.”

Applicants aren't elgible for any benefits for their first ten years in the program. Then they can file for citizenship and wait at least another three years. And that comes after a few "triggers" are met before the program can start such as improved border security.

The 2013 proposed path is more circuitous. First, the federal government must reach border security goals, a "trigger" that would allow unauthorized immigrants to embark on the path to citizenship. Those who qualify would first spend 10 years in provisional legal status, able to work and travel but ineligible for public benefits. Then they would be eligible for permanent legal status. After three more years, they'd be able to apply for citizenship. Expected wait time if all goes well: 13 years.

If recent history is any indicator, I would say those fears are not completely unfounded.
