This isn't the only scandal of Piers Morgan's shady tabloid past.
The newspaper which he used to edit had a column called 'City Slickers' where they hyped certain stocks. Morgan and the columnists (who were actually prosecuted I believe) used to buy the stocks in advance and sell them when the column was published.
For example Morgan bought $30k worth of Viglen computer stock the day before it was tipped in the newspaper column in January 2000. The stock subsequently soared.
