This is extremely un-PC, but gets to the very common sense statement by Friedman that you can't have open borders and a welfare state. The economist quote here, I hadn't heard before, but it reminds me of Ron: "Better to build a wall around the welfare state than around a country", but no one creating policy is suggesting that.
