FALL INTERNSHIPS

In the Washington, DC offices, internships run throughout the fall, spring, or summer semesters for college students. Although most internships in congressional offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' schedules and they may be willing to work with candidates available only part-time, but generally run 9:00 am to 6:00 pm when Congress is in session, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm when not in session.

In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They may be asked to answer phones, run errands, give Capitol tours, enter data, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House; tasks vary from office to office. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Preference is typically given to applicants who have some connection with the congressman's state (i.e. attended school, grew up in, currently resides in the respective state, etc). We strongly encourage you to consider applying to states to which you have a connection.

Cotton and AEI are well below 5th tier. Still, if anyone wants to be heavily involved with Rand 2016, getting some experience doing a liberty job or internship is a wise choice.
