View Full Version : Reince Priebus: GOP is 'Open for Repairs'

You think? In my mind, I'd like to think Rand Paul talking about changing the image of the Party frequently has something to do with this, but realistically, I'd imagine a Party chair to make a statement like this when their Party is in disarray after losing two elections and coming off as too fringe and extreme.

Priebus: GOP ‘not closed for repairs, we are open for repairs’

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Sunday pushed back against former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole’s recent criticism of the party, declaring the GOP “open for repairs.”

“The reality is if you look at the last two nominees, Mitt Romney and John McCain, I think that’s a pretty good counter-position to what Senator Dole had to say,” responded Priebus. Neither Romney nor McCain were the most conservative candidates in their respective fields.

Priebus said he sees “a tale of two parties.” In the off-year, he said, the GOP “wins about everything imaginable,” but “we haven’t decisively won a presidential race in 24 years.”

Whether his statement about off-years holds true for 2013-2014, we'll see.

Except if your from Alaska or Nevada?

The corruption runs deep there and Reince is refusing to do anything about it.

I'd repair that teleprompter. Damn thing gives results before they even happen. It's like being at a movie theatre and some idiot keeps hollerin' out the ending.

He met with the guys from Nevada. Not sure what happened with Alaska though.

I'm sure that was very empowering and liberating for you. We have plenty of great candidates running coming up as well as many more allies in office, so I'm here to keep the reformation process bearing fruit and not going orphan status. By all means, keep those principles of yours out of the effort.

Wow. Now THAT was a really bold thing to say.

I've been keeping my eye on Priebus since the election and my spidey senses tell me he is sincere these days. He can't help but see which way the wind is blowing. He see's personally how popular Rand's becoming. I'm sure not a day goes by when he doesn't talk to the GOP rank and file about how excited they are about Rand. Priebus's success depends on how successful the GOP candidates are in getting elected. If Rand's the type of candidate that can get elected, then that's the kind of candidate he wants to back. More self preservation than anything else.

For those not in the know, go take a look at what Reince did last election. IE Ron Paul State Caucuses dont count as valid and all belong to Mittens.

We have plenty of reasons to despise him for his past actions for sure. But if he see's the writing on the wall and is working in the GOP to elect true conservative now, I don't care personally.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Sunday pushed back against former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole’s recent criticism of the party, declaring the GOP “open for repairs.”

Also from the OP article:

Last week on the same program, Dole, the 1996 GOP presidential nominee, said the current Republican Party should be “closed for repairs.” The Kansas Republican said he doubted he could make it in today’s party and added that former GOP presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon wouldn’t fit in either.

So get it straight, people! According to Boob Dole, we're supposed to be bothered by the idea that he & Tricky Dick wouldn't "fit in" today. (Would only it were so!) I mean, geezum crow! I thought this doddering old fool was a senile hack back in the '90s. Time has not been kind. SMH.

And get a load of this. It's from an article about Boob's earlier comments, linked to from the OP article. Compare and contrast the parts highlighted in red with the part highlighted in blue ... and then try telling me that Dole isn't a mealy-mouthed, two-faced establishment hack of the first water.

The Republican Party has changed so drastically in recent years, the current GOP wouldn’t welcome the likes of Ronald Reagan, former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole said Sunday.

The current GOP ought to be “closed for repairs” because it lacks a vision and is unable to strike deals with Democrats, Dole said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday”.

The Kansas Republican said he was disturbed by his party’s obstructionist behavior on Capitol Hill. “It seems almost unreal that we can’t get together on a budget or legislation,” he said.

President Obama also deserves blame for failing to reach out to Republicans in his first term and cultivate better relationships across party lines, Dole said.

Asked whether he would be welcomed by the Republican Party today, Dole said, “I doubt it. Reagan wouldn’t have made it, certainly Nixon wouldn’t have made it, because he had ideas. We might have made it, but I doubt it.”

Dole said his party needs stronger leadership. “Somebody has to stand up and say, ‘We’re not going to do this,’” he said.

Got that? "Stronger leadership" for Republicans does NOT mean opposing Democrats. Oh, no, not at all!

It means going along with Democrats on budgets and legislation!

Yeah, that'll fix the GOP real good ... if by "fix" you mean "neuter" - as in, "We're gonna fix the dog" ...

Nice reading between the lines. Luckily he's irrelevant. Bob may still be alive physically but he became dead politically when he started hawking Viagra on TV. It was pretty close to "Pulling an Anthony Wiener" move back then.

LOLOLOL.

I "let my comments be known" due to a little thing called free speech. And because I WANT TO. (Deal with it)

As for my decision between Hillary and Rand:
1. It's a huge assumption at this point to think either or both of them will be on the ballot
2. I've already stated that I would never vote for Hillary.
3. I've already stated that I MAY vote for Rand in the general, but it's too soon to commit.
4. "None of the above" remains an option.

What they did was horrible. But, I noticed in one of the videos after the deal was done, that showed more of what was on the teleprompter than just that one blurb, and it in fact had BOTH possibilities on the teleprompter. ie. What to say if it passed and ALSO what to say if it failed. Of course, we know they just read what came up first and I have no doubt that was their plan anyway.

Regarding Reince Preibus...

DON'T trust, but USE (to attain our goals).

Sure, the best option would be to get one of our guys in that position, but until then, I say use him where possible, but never trust him. Putting up a wall and chanting I hate you, I hate you, isn't going to get us anywhere towards our goals.

All I know is that a name like Reince Priebus makes me think he came out of his mother's womb on a yacht and he shits caviar. I don't think anyone with a name like that is going to reform the GOP for the better.

I saw the thing. They're supposed to say "Go to Scenario 2" or something. I always wondered what the mysterious 'scenarios' were. If opposition was heard, maybe the doors would lock and the convention center would fill with poison gas.
