HOUSTON -
One of the two suspects arrested and expelled from Klein Forest High School appeared before a judge Friday morning after he brought a gun to school the day before.
On Thursday, Klein ISD officials said a student told a school administrator that he had seen a handgun in another student's backpack during lunch.
The distinct said one student brought the handgun to school to give to another student.
Klein ISD released a statement Thursday: "The Klein ISD and Klein Forest administration praise the young man who immediately brought this to the attention of the appropriate personnel so the matter could be handled swiftly and without incident. The Klein ISD will continue to work diligently to keep students and staff safe and secure. Firearms on school grounds will not be tolerated."
Both students were arrested for possession of a firearm on school property. Due to Klein ISD Student Code of Conduct, both were mandatorily expelled.
One of the suspects, 17-year-old Dwayne Douglas Sarabia, appeared in court Friday morning.
Court records showed the handgun was loaded with four bullets.
Prosecutors said the principals checked Sarabia’s pockets for the gun, but could not find it. Later, the gun and a loaded clip were found in another student’s hoodie.
Security at Klein Forest High School is expected to be high for the remainder of the school year.
