Nearly two-thirds of people believe there will be a 'clash of civilisations' between British Muslims and white Britons in the wake of the murder of a British soldier in Woolwich, a new poll shows.

The number of those who believe such a clash is inevitable has increased by 9% from last year.

There has also been a small increase in the proportion of people who believe British Muslims pose a serious threat to democracy, up to 34% on Thursday and Friday from 30% in November 2012, according to the YouGov survey of 1,839 adults.

Dunno. In fact, I don't really know much at all about brits or brit muslims there. 2/3 of people expecting a "clash" sounds like a lot. I also wonder if the 1,839 adults polled were all across the country. If you started taking polls about race wars in the US, I'd imagine you could create wildly different results by geographic region.

Offering Muslims some money in exchange for leaving back towards their homelands is doable. It's one of the ideas the Right in the UK has been throwing around. All we can hope is that the UKIP keeps growing.

Probably not; thus far, the Britons have capitulated to every act of government regulation, including the country's inane immigration policies.

The only reason this is even brought up is because the murdered was a state-licensed murderer and servant of the state. If this had been a mundane, it wouldn't even be news.

i say they should find a big open field, separate the 2 combative groups by 100 yards, place machetes, swords, knives, clubs etc. in the middle, fire off a starting gun, and everyone then runs towards the weapons. Let the madness begin.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. It's not a "Muslim" issue, it's an issue of governments intervening in other countries, sending hired thugs to kill in the name of "peace." You can't eliminate extremism, but you can certainly stop blowback. What's the difference between this white Brit being murdered and a white Brit murdering Afghanis? There is no difference, except one is seen as "barbaric" and the other as "just."

If you want to blame anyone for this attack, blame the years of backwards foreign policy fueling young men into 'extremism' as a way to protect their land.

This fear of 'Muslims' is exactly what drove Americans to support the war on terror after 9/11. THEY HATE US FOR OUR FREEDOM.

Nearly two-thirds of British people or so who supported UK's invasion of Iraq have finally admitted that "do clash of civilization over there" so we don't have to "do clash of civilization over here" was a dumb idea and is creating major blowbacks.

Clash of civilization between a religion and a race seems very odd and confusing for evoking any serious prejudices. A viable civilization clash would feature muslims vs christians , non-whites vs whites , muslims vs non-muslims etc. Above reported clash will be a no go as it is being framed.

Quick google search shows clearly there are Black Christian Britons and White Muslim Britons, where will they take seats in this clash of civies?
