Conservatives need to make sure that there are as many unpalatable LGBT amendments offered to the immigration bill as possible.

Democrats will be forced to support them and if 60 votes are required then opponents should make sure they supply the votes needed and get them into the final bill.

That way the GOP House will never pass it.

Reid can try and control the process and keep the LGBT amendments out but usually there's agreement with McConnell which allows the GOP to offer a limited number of whatever they want and if Reid blocks LGBT amendments from coming up he would get serious pusback from the gay lobby.

Leahy dropped his LGBT amendment in committee today because he's worried Republicans won't support a bill with it in so Republicans need to make sure his amendment comes up on the floor :) along with any other "wrecking" amendments they can think of that would force Democrats into uncomfortable votes.

Of course they could just go to conference and strip them out if the House pass something but it's a serious bone of contention for Democrats and it will get the gay lobby who the progressives claim as a constituency all wound up.

While I think it's an interesting idea that would have the left in hot water with one of their biggest constituencies, if conservatives weren't on board with the LGBT amendment to begin with, why and how would they ever bring it up again?

In order to kill the bill they need to make sure the amendments get into the final bill then see if the Republicans will vote for a bill that grants gays benefits and sponsorship of immigrants by gay lovers.

See if it gets 60 votes for final passage when all that is in there and if it does then the House GOP will never pass it.
