CBS News) Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev left claiming responsibility for the April 13 attack on the Boston Marathon, reports CBS News senior correspondent John Miller.

Sources tell Miller that Tsarnaev wrote the note in the boat he was hiding in as police pursued him, and as he bled from gunshot wounds sustained in an earlier shootout between police and his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The note, scrawled with a pen on the interior wall of the cabin, said the bombings were retribution for U.S. military action in Afghanistan and Iraq, and called the Boston victims collateral damage in the same way Muslims have been in the American-led wars. "When you attack one Muslim, you attack all Muslims," the note added.

Dzhokar said he didn't mourn older brother Tamerlan, the other suspect in the bombings, writing that by that point, Tamerlan was a martyr in paradise -- and that he expected to join him there.

Miller's sources say the wall the note was written on was riddled with bullet holes from shots fired into the boat. The shots were fired after Dzhokhar came up through the tarp covering the boat amid police fears that he had another bomb.

According to Miller, the note will be a significant piece of evidence in any Dzhokar trial -- it is "certainly admissible," and paints a clear picture of the brothers' motive, "consistent with what he told investigators while he was in custody," Miller said Thursday on "CBS This Morning."

Miller explained that while Dzhokar admitted many of the same details to authorities, those admissions came "during the time he was interrogated but before he was given his Miranda warning." The note gives prosecutors supporting, clearly admissible evidence even if there is an fight over whether things he said before he was given his Miranda rights are admissible as evidence.

Interesting how this stuff slowly becomes "admissible" to inform the general public. Why were they sitting on this? What were they waiting for?

So is that when he supposedly got shot in the throat? Because the "He shot himself in the throat" story is obvious BS.

If it were convenient, the note would have said that he bombed America because you're allowed to go to school or work, if you choose.

Interesting subtle differences with the same story.

Here is the Yahoo version of the same CBS story:
http://news.yahoo.com/boston-bombing-suspect-wrote-message-boat-cbs-news-133902669.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was found hiding in a boat days after the blasts, left a handwritten message describing the attack as retribution for U.S. wars in Muslim countries, CBS News reported on Thursday.

The CBS News report, citing anonymous sources, said that Tsarnaev used a pen to write the message on an interior wall of the boat, where police found him bleeding from gunshot wounds four days after the April 15 bombing.

The note summed up with the idea that "when you attack one Muslim, you attack all Muslims," CBS News reported.

CBS News did not make clear how its sources knew the information and Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the report.

A spokeswoman for the FBI in Boston, Katherine Gulotta, declined to confirm or deny the report.

The CBS News report said Tsarnaev, 19, described his older brother and fellow suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who died in a gunbattle with police, as "a martyr."

"Basically, the note says ... the bombings were retribution for the U.S. crimes against Muslims in places like Iraq and Afghanistan and that the victims of the Boston bombing were 'collateral damage,' the same way innocent victims have been collateral damage in U.S. wars around the world," said CBS News reporter John Miller, who is a former spokesman for the FBI.

The bombings at the finish line of the world-famous marathon killed three people and injured 264 others. The FBI identified the ethnic Chechen brothers as suspects from video and pictures at the scene.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested in Watertown, Massachusetts, on April 19 after a daylong manhunt and lockdown of much of the Boston area. He is being held in a prison hospital west of Boston and faces charges that could carry the death penalty if he is convicted.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been on a U.S. government database of potential terrorism suspects and the United States had twice been warned by Russia that he might be an Islamic militant, according to U.S. security officials.

I do not believe them with a note
I do not believe it was in the boat
I saw the guy climb out himself
He did it nimbly, like an elf

I do not think he shot his throat
I saw him climb out of the boat
I have my doubts about this case
Too many lies all over the place

He might've set the bombs indeed
His brother too, who cannot plead
But damned if the FBI didn't find it
Wherever there's terror, they're always behind it

Funny how obviously available evidence, just keeps coming out slowly, whenever needed.

Shouldn't this have been known when the guy who discovered the boat couldn't remember if he'd cut himself, while looking at a large amount of blood on his boat??

I've been asking around. I understand people get scratches and bruises without knowing how... but really... people remember injuries like that, or someone will tell them before they find their own giant pool of blood.

Unless it was a Sharpie, it's about impossible to write with a pen on a boat hull. Go try to write with a ballpoint pen on something made of smooth plastic or painted fiberglass and see how well it works.

No it isn't.

Most people believe he did it. Before and after this note came out.

The people who didn't believe it before still don't believe it now.

No one's opinion has changed.

The only "revelation" to some out of this note is that he blamed our foreign policy. So if you want an agenda for this story then that's pretty much all you have.

That's EXACTLY what I was about to post.

There is no way this can be done- plus, even if the hull was of "writable" material, he would have to have the pen pointing straight down in order to keep the ink in place.

pens have ink that dry quickly now, i doubt he would be using a fountain pen lol

The odds he had a sharpie on him are really low too, not that many people carry them around. Heck these days not that many people even carry pens around.

I never noticed how many bullet holes there are in that boat! The fence behind it is shot up real bad. At least a hundred rounds. Looks like a couple of .50cals through the front? Big brown holes. No writing that I can see there on the hull.

The irony is that his "note" would actually support the blowback argument for non-intervention policies, just like OBL's declared reasons. But who really would use that argument right now? I guess the Boston bombers are today's OBL. Conundrum.

LMAO, that story is ridiculous. Just like all false flag events, the story just doesn't add up. OK, the alleged bomber was shot in the neck earlier in the day; and the 10,000 stormtroopers didn't know? No sign or path of blood?

His trial will be about as fair as Irwin Schiff's:

Prosecutor: "Objection! Irrelevant!"

Judge Dawson: "Sustained!"

Irwin Schiff: "The income tax law is irrelevant?"

Judge Dawson: "I will not allow the law in my courtroom!"

Irwin Schiff: "But the Supreme Court said in the Cheek decision . . ."

Judge Dawson: "Irrevelant! Denied!"

Irwin Schiff: "The Supreme Court is irrelevant?"

Judge Dawson: "Irrevelant! Denied!"
