Sen. Cruz: IRS has no place assessing or monitoring Americans’ personal health information

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today released the following statement regarding the IRS’s admission of targeting conservative groups:

Today’s news about the IRS admitting it inappropriately targeted conservative, tea party groups is an outrage. What’s just as concerning is the expansive role this agency is charged to take in enforcing Obamacare. An agency that has admitted to engaging in such corrupt, political activities has no place assessing or monitoring Americans’ personal health information.

According to GAO, the IRS has 47 different taxes and regulations it is expected to administer, which not only include collecting and enforcing taxes, but also mining our health care data and monitoring whether Americans’ health plans meet Obamacare thresholds.

I fully support calls to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for these reprehensible actions, and will continue fighting for full repeal of Obamacare as we continue learning the disaster this legislation will inflict on small businesses, on our national budget and on Americans’ personal liberties.

Ted loves government agencies like the IRS... he seeks to manage them, make them better etc... standard stuff.

Oh yeah good point: He supports the government having your mental health records to deny you exercising the 2nd amendment.

Are you talking about:

S.Amdt. 725 to S. 649 (Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013) (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=113&session=1&vote=00098)

To address gun violence, improve the availability of records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, address mental illness in the criminal justice system, and end straw purchases and trafficking of illegal firearms, and for other purposes.

Rand Paul (R-KY) - Yea
Ted Cruz (R-TX) - Yea
Mike Lee (R-UT) - Nay

Rand Paul voted for it.

Warlord, your anti-Cruz propaganda sucks.

Rising GOP star Ted Cruz talks about the media, the convention, federal agencies to axe (http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/02/8-questions-about-the-media-with-rising-gop-star-ted-cruz/2/)

TheDC:

How do you come down on eliminating specific federal cabinet agencies and departments? Do you have specific ones you’d like to see thrown out?

Ted Cruz:

...

I would eliminate the U.S. Department of Commerce. I would eliminate the U.S. Department of Energy. I would eliminate the National Endowment of the Arts. I think the arts are terrific. But I see no reason why unelected bureaucrats spend your and mine tax dollars on arts they happen to like.

And the agency I’d most like to eliminate is the IRS through fundamental tax reform.

No, not ammendment 725.

Ammendment 730 is the problem.

"To reauthorize and improve programs related to mental health and substance use disorders."
