institutionalized racism is still racism, and you don't need to be a 'prog' to see why some might be offended by the team's name.

would it be more obvious if they were named after a more known/popular slur word for a larger group of people?

They have my permission to rename themselves the Washington Rednecks.

So you're insinuating that a so-called "offensive" team mascot is keeping up Native Americans up at night? What does the term redskin indicate in 2013, beyond a particular pigment of skin??? This is what I can't comprehend. The Native American population is floundering due to alcoholism and poverty, yet this is on somehow on their radar??? Apparently, native americans have no problem selling out their sacred heritage when state casino and private developer monies are concerned. When you start to peel away the various layers of hypocrisy and superficial concerns, this is a fallacious crutch argument. Just because the Washington Redskins name exists in 2013 does nothing to demean or denigrate current Native Americans. In fact, you can make the argument in this imbecil rich environment that such namesakes actually keep the unfortunate legacy of the Indians front and center.

Here's an idea.

If the term REDSKINS offends you, don't buy a ticket to their game, don't buy their gear, and don't watch them.

The end.
