Two observations of the Boston bombings: 1) Watching video of the way police treated the citizens of the Boston area after the bombings can only be described as chilling. The Constitution was completely ignored and trampled and the good people of Greater Boston were subjected to Nazi-style Gestapo tactics. It seemed we witnessed the dawn of a modern-day, American Police State. What is worse is the way so many Bostonians cheered these Gestapo-like tactics. Has it come to this? Are Americans really willing to sacrifice their liberties in the name of security? And is security really more valuable to us than liberty? 2) Are people who die at the hands of a bomber more precious and valuable than those who are killed in an accidental explosion? Three days after the Boston bombings, scores of people (perhaps over 100) were killed in a massive explosion outside Waco, Texas. Yet, the media's coverage of this tragedy was negligable. Three people died in Boston, and probably over one hundred were killed near Waco. Yet, where is the national grief for the victims and families of the Waco explosion? We should be grieving for both sets of victims, not using the violent actions of a couple crazies as an excuse to instill fear in the hearts of the American people in order to implement a police state.
