I was just going to post this!

So if pressure cooker bombs are WMD does that vindicate Bush going into Iraq?

WTF??? Just charge his ass with murder, why sensationalize it like this?

Really seems like no way they can charge him in civilian court, I think they pull back on that

So, if I go to the store to buy a pressure cooker to make a nice beef stew, then I'm at risk of purchasing WMD components and being charged with such?

Because every time you pass a new law some prosecutor is anxious to think of a way to use it.

Interesting. What constitutes a WMD? Certainly, the firearms used in Sandy Hook and Aurora qualify, right? Is it still mass destruction if only a few people are injured? Can a car be a WMD if you drive it into a crowd?

I ate beans last night. Could I be building a WMD as we speak? How low do they want to set the bar?

any revolver or gun that holds more than two bullets is a WMD, clearly.

Because there isn't a federal law against murder. And Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty.

So, gas, toxins, biological weapons and 'whatever is in section 921 of that title'

Why does it have to be a federal law?

Or is that looking too carefully at what they are using to justify the national police state?

It doesn't have to be a federal prosecution. I'm assuming that Massachusetts could prosecute the guy and keep him in prison for the rest of his life without too much trouble.

But they're liberals, who don't believe in the death penalty, so they'll hand it off to the Feds to keep their reputations clean.

Twisting and manipulating the terminology of written law to where the law deviates from the spirit in which it was written is a prosecutors forte..

If this guy is guilty as alleged then he deserves to be sentenced for the crimes as defined by statute.

I already have a very low opinion of prosecutors and this just screams of grandstanding!

Sure, why not?

That's where this is all headed anyway. You're either a cop, or a terrorist.

These days, it's getting pretty hard to tell the two apart.

Good point. You're either a terrorist cop, or a terrorist person who belongs in a fema camp. We all know cops don't get prosecuted.

I've seen Diet Coke and Mentos bombs on YouTube that look like they could cause more "Mass Destruction" than these bombs did. OK, that's exaggerating. Not to make light of anyone who was injured or killed, but seriously, this charge is pathetic. Don't they have criminal statutes dealing with illegal explosives that are a little more appropriate for how non-mass-destructive these bombs really were?

Well.. let's see what happened in the past from a bomb-plot..

World Trade Center comes to mind.. Ramzi Yousef.. 6 people killed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramzi_Yousef#Arrest.2C_conviction_and_prison_life

On September 5, 1996, Yousef and two co-conspirators were convicted for their role in the Bojinka plot and were sentenced to life in prison without parole. U.S. District Court Judge Kevin Duffy referred to Yousef as "an apostle of evil" before recommending that the entire sentence be served in solitary confinement.[22]

On November 12, 1997, Yousef was found guilty of masterminding the 1993 bombing, and in 1998 he was convicted of "seditious conspiracy" to bomb the World Trade Center towers.[23][24] The judge sentenced Yousef to 240 years for the Trade Center attack, and life in prison for killing Haruki Ikegami in 1994.

Yousef is held at the high-security Supermax prison ADX Florence in Florence, Colorado.[25] The handcuffs Ramzi Yousef wore when he was captured in Pakistan are displayed at the FBI Museum in Washington, DC.[26] His Federal Prisoner number is: 03911-000.

I also read "Conspiracy to Murder" as being a charge for him. Nothing about WMD's; and he's still alive!

I want to be clear I don't condone anything that happened - but let the kid have his day in court and may the truth be told!
