New York City, home to bans on trans fats and salt, is taking a step toward outlawing sales of cigarettes to anyone under age 21.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, running to replace health conscious Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is due on Monday to announce legislation to increase the minimum age for buying cigarettes to 21 from 18, the current limit.

On nearby Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk counties have boosted their legal age for buying cigarettes and other tobacco products to 19.

We should respond immediately by lobbying for the age to go overseas and be murdered to 21 in retaliation.

I was hoping they would just make them illegal , then I could retire and smuggle cigarettes :)

This is wrong headed of course and I do not support this. Being one of those many men who was 18 and served in war and then combat, I can tell you one thing for certain, my right to smoke and drink is not limited by some misguided laws. I did drink sometimes and I did smoke when I was under 21 and I was a man and an adult and a warrior. I do not support this nonsense.

My point exactly, APAT. So ridiculous.

The whole NYC area is crap. NY/NJ and that part of CT. Gun bans, cigarette bans, video game regulations may be next in NJ thanks to the Republican governor. Not to mention it has the highest property taxes in the US and NYC and Cali have the highest income taxes in the US. The only part of the US with a more pronounced police state is Washington DC and the suburbs in VA and MD. I recommend people save up some money, learn some skills and leave the NYC area.

There is a huge freedom/patriot/liberty/911 Truth party in NYC on 4/20. There were the prices of drinks at the event. $9 for a beer and $13 for a mixed drink. Many people in NYC make so much money because of the billions of dollars the area steals from the rest of the world every year that they are able to afford those prices and think it is no big deal. It's disgusting how the billions in stolen money is not only ruining the people that get the money, but the whole area.

Very true and the funnier part is that we are responsible for MUCH more than just a pistol and rifle too. Thousands upon thousands of dollars, if not millions of bucks worth of low to high tech weaponry and systems. Even the grunts got that going on too. So screw any pukes that say a man isn't able to do something safely if he is under a certain age, bull-snap!

NY is already the most smuggled to state and NH is the most smuggled from state. Don't you know, there would be no smoking in NY if NH would just charge reasonable prices for cigarettes!!!

Most cigarettes in NYC are bought out of the region. I don't know why he does these crap ideas except to push poor and middle class out by promoting an upper class friendly lifestyle. I've always felt that was his agenda.
