Different mix of people on twitter today, with the 'CISPA blackout', personally I think turning over the internet to people who DON'T oppose CISPA for a day is a mistake and a gift to the other side, but there it is.

Anyhow, here's a writeup of some of the tweets on the immigration hearing: http://twitchy.com/2013/04/22/senate-spat-sens-schumer-grassley-go-at-it-during-immigration-reform-hearing/

There's a Microsoft representative on there right now talking about how Microsoft spends money to provide legal counsel to children and infants so they won't be deported. It's for the children!

I wonder if anyone is going to bring up the real issues of expense of taxpayer services when services are already planned for rationing under Obamacare, Social Security disability for otherwise unqualified for Social Security senior parents brought over through chain migration and state education costs and depleted services? Or are they only going to talk about federal costs before Obamacare, ignore chain migration (or pretend as Costa did to me in a tweet that the bill 'ends chain migration' when it only ends it for siblings who were not getting in anyhow since priority family pushed them back?)

Because I am sick of this being about the monsters who want to deport people brought here decades ago as innocent children, v the open borders crowd. People who are long time here and otherwise good citizens could be 'legal' but blocked from citizenship which will otherwise occur automatically, bringing in the chain migration issue. As just one way to handle it. Taxpayer funded programs could specifically NOT be a part of the package.

It is as if no one up there is representing the people. Mind you, this is hardly the only topic I feel that way about, now that Ron is gone.

I knew this CISPA self-blackout of the internet would be a bad idea. I am seeing virtually nothing on CISPA (besides what I tweet) here's this:

This article was retweeted today because of the latest round of immigration talks.

Basically, the US government has been advertising to Spanish speaking immigrants that they can get an EBT card too (non-citizens are eligible). But don't worry, it won't cost anything.

The government has been targeting Spanish speakers with radio “novelas” promoting food stamp usage as part of a stated mission to increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps.

Each novela, comprising a 10-part series called “PARQUE ALEGRIA,” or “HAPPINESS PARK,” presents a semi-dramatic scenario involving characters convincing others to get on food stamps, or explaining how much healthier it is to be on food stamps.
...
“Although many non-citizens are now eligible for SNAP, SNAP participation has been historically low among eligible non-citizen households,” reads a 2011 Guidance on Non-Citizen Eligibility. “In 2008, the participation rate for non-citizens was 51% and the rate for citizen children living with non-citizen adults was 55% as compared to the national participation rate of 67% among all eligible individuals.”

whattyaknow, Jim DeMint put out something on the costs. http://blog.heritage.org/2013/04/22/demint-costs-of-unlawful-immigration/

Mind you, it kinda glosses over any issues on the part he likes, so it isn't really looking at it neutrally, but it is the first I've seen trying to take any part of this as an accounting exercise.

Yeah, DeMint was the only person I saw mention it. Someone that was for the new Amnesty bill said today during testimony that some people focus too much on the cost, and ignore all of the benefits. Forget who it was. It's all good. New taxpayers, new voters, and everyone gets an EBT card and a free pressure cooker. Yippee, bipartisan immigration reform!
