this person is about to go through security at JFK, presumably a different terminal, says the guy in charge is 'scary'. If he just got a report of the suspicious package, understandable.

Baggage transfer from a smaller airport, bag smuggled in the back way (I mean how hard would it really be? Not very, according to previous tests that have done just that), bag that made it past the TSA (and then became suspicious because the person did not board the plane), etc..

I have mixed emotions about this news story. if its a package that was about to go into a cargo hold and there is no one in the passenger section
that has a legitimate connection to the same said package, then even if its harmless, its a good thing it was spotted right away. the other thought
is that the airlines often indiscriminately loose luggage on a regular basis and often unintentionally separate the poor people from their belongings.
