URGENT - BREAKING NEWS:

According to inside sources on Capitol Hill, Harry Reid believes he's locked in the 60 votes necessary to RAM Barack Obama's anti-gun legislation through the Senate.

And the vote is going down in just a few short hours, 4pm today.

That's why it's critical you call our U.S. Senators IMMEDIATELY and urge them to vote against any gun control legislation at every opportunity.

WASHINGTON -- The Senate will vote on nine amendments to the gun bill beginning at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday afternoon, Majority Leader Harry Reid said. The amendments, in the scheduled order of consideration, are:

• The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act (Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and three co-sponsors): The compromise background check provision expands background checks to gun shows and Internet sales, but exempts family-to-family and other in-home sales. It also authorizes $400 million to upgrade the national background check database and reduces the turnaround time for background checks from three days to two days; in four years, it would be reduced to one day

• The Grassley substitute amendment: A proposal by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to replace the background check provisions of the existing bill entirely. Introduced Wednesday morning, the bill would, among other things, emphasize enforcement against individuals who lie on background check applications, and increase information in the background check system on people who have been found mentally impaired by a court.

• The Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act (Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and two co-sponsors): The maximum penalty for "straw buying" a firearm from a federally licensed dealer — that is, buying a gun for someone else to evade a background check — would increase to 15 years. The amendment also bans the transfer of guns to someone the seller knows is prohibited from owning firearms, and makes it a crime to smuggle firearms out of the United States.

• Concealed-carry reciprocity (Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and two co-sponsors): The amendment would treat state-issued concealed carry permits like driver's licenses for purposes of carrying a concealed firearm -- allowing someone with a valid permit in one state to use it in any other state.

• The Assault Weapons Ban (Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and 23 co-sponsors): The amendment bans the sale, transfer and importation of assault rifles, including 157 specifically mentioned in the law -- a broader definition than existed from 1994 to 2004. Current lawful owners of assault weapons would be grandfathered.

• An amendment (by Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C. and nine cosponsors) to require a court order finding a person a danger to himself or herself -- or to others -- before that person is banned from buying a gun. The intent, supporters say, is to protect the rights of veterans.

• The Large-Capacity Magazine Feeding Devices Amendment (Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., and 21 co-sponsors): The measure would ban magazines and other devices holding more than 10 rounds, but exempts .22 caliber rifles. Police officers -- both on- and off-duty -- would also be exempted. It also authorizes federally funded gun buyback programs to purchase high-capacity magazines.

• An amendment on privacy, sponsored by Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo. The amendment would withhold 5% of a state's community-oriented policing grant money if it publicly releases gun ownership information, except as part of law enforcement or court proceedings.

• The Mental Health Awareness and Improvement Act, sponsored by Sens. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn. The measure supports and encourages school violence prevention efforts, suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

These are all proposed amendments to an underlying gun bill that Reid introduced last week. Each amendment would require 60 votes to pass.

Obama is basically saying we'll try again after another tragedy.

The left never give up.

One day they will take the 2nd.

Nah, he's just an AIPAC shill. I bet 41 or 42 for this.

so basically after months of media propaganda and lies from obama and reid and some republicans. They should all fail? If so? Lovely about time they both are called out and look like the fools they are. Keep the pressure on.

It's amusing how the Dems sell themselves out and describe this as a multi-round battle, they play right into the argument the gun-rights lobby makes about it being an incremental erosion of rights.

If i remember political protocol correctly. As a senate Leader you never bring something to the floor for a vote unless you can promise a win or loss in your favor! This makes the senate leader and prez look foolish:) Yeahhhhh

It is. But remember that even if it passed the Senate, it was doomed in the House. It was a pretty sound defeat in the face of a "no-holds-barred" attack. Obama couldn't even deliver the Senate with a majority of his own party. He and the gun controllers got their asses handed to them, no doubt.

Yeah, he's pretty much worthless. Even Collins is better than him.

What an ignorant caller on C-SPAN just now. Disappointed none of the amendments passed because they wanted more gun control. Didn't realize a couple of the amendments were pro-2A. Make the the first 2 callers..

Obama wants to "save the children" but yet he won't speak out against the abortion doctor who murdered babies who were already born.

He prefers to murder children by starvation and drone bombings.

National CCW is not pro-2A, it is about federal control. Drivers license reciprocity is via interstate compact; no fedgov involvement.
