At LRC, Becky Akers has a blog post about Congressional objections to the TSA's policy of allowing small pocketknives on planes. The most important observation (which I have bolded) comes at the end - and it applies to a hell of a lot more than just the issue of this particular TSA policy. The vast & monstrously bloated bureaucracy - the "4th branch" of the U.S. government - is the real power in America.

Congress and the Presidency are just distracting sideshows. Mark my words: if there ever comes a day when we get "our people" into Capitol HIll and/or the Oval Office and any genuine, serious & significant attempt is made to seriously curtail the power & purview of the federal bureaucracy, the "4th branch" will bare its fangs and we'll find out just who is really in charge ...

FTA (emphasis mine): http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/135407.html

"A bipartisan group of 133 Congressmen (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/international/congressmen-seek-withdrawal-of-policy-to-carry-knives-in-planes/article4537421.ece) have called for a withdrawal of the latest US policy that allows air travellers to carry small knifes [sic] in domestic and international flights" in a letter to John "The Pervert" Pistole, Head Deviant at the TSA.

Where were these craven creeps when the agency instituted its groping and irradiating? Or when it traumatized little girls with spina bifida (http://now.msn.com/lucy-forck-three-year-old-with-spina-bifida-singled-out-for-tsa-screening), cerebral palsy (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/tsa-under-fire-mistreatment-7-old-girl-cerebral-164507761.html), or the natural impulse to hug a grandmother (http://www.nbcnews.com/travel/tsa-pats-down-4-year-old-after-she-hugs-grandmother-732776)? Or when it brutalized survivors of cancer (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/40291856/ns/travel-news/t/tsa-pat-down-leaves-traveler-covered-urine/#.UWbXgnDR0jA)? Where were these elected sociopaths when the TSA slaughtered Rigoberto Alpizar (http://www.lewrockwell.com/akers/akers24.html)? Or the tens of thousands of times its goons preyed on passengers (http://tsanewsblog.com/master-list-of-tsa-abuses-and-crimes/)?

So far as I can recall, few if any of these outrages against us inspired so much as a bleat from Congress' slime. But "allowing" passengers a pocketknife has these dingbats, morons, and criminals up in arms.

Meanwhile, The Perv sails defiantly onward. After nigh a month of bitter controversy and criticism over this slight loosening of the serfs' chains, he continues ignoring Congress as blithely as he ignored the screams of gate-rape's victims. It will be fascinating to see who wins this showdown; I'm betting on The Perv. The bureaucratic regime is far more powerful, shadowy, obscure, and dictatorial than politicians -- and that's a high bar, indeed. Warriors for freedom who regularly battle elected psychos should aim more of their shots at bureaucracies, as I explain here (http://www.americandailyherald.com/pundits/becky-akers/item/bums-and-bureaucrats) and here. I thought the 4th branch was the State run media?

ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC keep America docile.

All congress needs to do is defund the agency. But they won't

And when congress fails who is it up to? You and I.

Lets get going.

I am doing my part by scaling back my life and will soon cut my income - and hence my funding of the beast - by about two thirds.

Another point that should be made in this context: earmarking takes power AWAY from the adminstrative agencies. That's why Ron Paul says EVERYTHING should be earmarked.

Because they are subject to them (the bureaucracies). There was a video on a thread here not so long ago (from the past) where legislators talked about how they get threatened by the IRS, etc...when they bring up "reigning them in" via funding or law.
