New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun violence group is pulling ads that targeted Sen. Pat Toomey after the Pennsylvania Republican agreed to a compromise on background checks for commercial gun sales.
“Following the announcement today that Senator Pat Toomey joined West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin in co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to require background checks for commercial gun sales – including at gun shows and online – Mayors Against Illegal Guns announced that it would stop airing ads in Pennsylvania and thanked Senator Toomey for standing with Pennsylvanians and supporting this commonsense legislation,” the organization said in a statement.
On Tuesday, Mayors Against Illegal Guns released ads in Pennsylvania, calling on citizens to encourage Toomey to support a bipartisan agreement on background checks. On Wednesday, he and Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced they had reached a deal on the issue.
