Cuba said Tuesday afternoon that it would return a Florida couple who sailed into Havana with their two sons, whom they are accused of taking from the boys' maternal grandparents, the Associated Press is reporting.

Foreign Ministry official Johana Tablada said in a written statement Tuesday that U.S. authorities had been informed that Joshua Michael Hakken, his wife, Sharyn, and their two young sons would be returned. She did not say when the handover would occur.

The family has been living on their boat in a Havana marina.

The boys had been living since last year with Sharyn Hakken's parents, who were granted permanent custody a week ago.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office alleges that Joshua Hakken entered his mother-in-law's house north of Tampa on Wednesday, tied her up and fled with his sons, 4-year-old Cole and 2-year-old Chase.

The sheriff's office has issued an arrest warrant for Hakken on charges of kidnapping and several other counts.

Hakken lost custody of his sons last year after a drug possession arrest in Louisiana, and he later tried to take them from a foster home at gunpoint, authorities have said.

Why don't they ever say what drug it was he possessed?

So were they apprehended in Cuba? Did they go to the authorities and seek asylum and have it denied?

And why can US ports accept this shipment from Cuba when the embargo is still in place?

Would Cuba have deported them if they were communist infowar-ites instead of libertarian infowar-ites?

I understand why they couldn't navigate further with kids onboard, but had they made it to Jamaica, and just layed low- they'd be alrie right now. Jamaica has a nice private school system they could have enrolled in too.
