He's one of Rand's few allies on Iraq and Afghanistan. Even Lee voted against de-authorizing the Iraq War.

If there's going to be a discussion it should be about amending the Constitution, not weakening it.

Just checked the roll call for the Iraq vote and Heller, Snowe and DeMint were the only GOP Senators who stood with Rand, and both Snowe and DeMint are no longer in the Senate now. Flake is likely to be an ally too as he turned strongly against the war in his last few years in the House, but he may have done some deals with McCain (he's already changed his position on Iran sanctions) in order to get support for his Senate run.
